COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rebel IPA is brewed with 5 varieties of West coast hops: cascade, simcoe, centennial, chinook, & amarillo. Itís everything we love about West coast style IPAís. Big citrus & grapefruit flavors with subtle pine notes for a flavorful refreshing brew.

Another example of Sam Adams rolling out good brews This is one of the few IPAs I actually like! It didnít have the overly hoppy finish like most of them do.

Pours a clear golden with an average white head. Aromas of grapefruit, orange, and pine. Nice balance of sweet with bitter and a finish that brings it all together. Nice IPA.

The bottle has a tick mark on NOV 2014 as an "Enjoy By" date. Appearance: Crystal clear body (with the exception of being the color of burnished gold) with a fluffy white head that leaves lacing. Aroma: It has a strong aroma of citrus, specifically grapefruit. It has a lovely aroma. Taste: Right off the bat I would say that this doesnít strike me as a "West Coast Style" IPA as the label states. I am immediately met with a very very lightly bitter grapefruit flavor that is pushed out of the way by a light bready malt flavor. Unfortunately even the malt flavor is very mild. The hop flavor is not fresh, inviting, or even uninviting for that matter. The hop flavor seems very flat and that backs up a flat bitterness. Having two flat tires isnít going to get you anywhere. Palate: The palate on this is poor. There isnít much bitterness to wake up the palate. It finishes fairly wet which even further exacerbates the lack of apparent bitterness. Overall: It really wasnít that great of a drinking experience. It left much to be desired in bitterness and flavor. It felt way to watered down and mellow. I wouldnít recommend it and I wouldnít buy it again. This rebel wonít win any wars...

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Dogfish Head pint glass. The color is a clear light copper with a thin white head with a touch of lacing left on the glass. The smell is slightly hoppy with a pilsner malt aroma that tickles my nose a bit. The taste has a nice light pop of hops to get things started. A nice citrus fruit flavor comes out to meet the tongue with a light malt that is different then expected bringing in a barely taste that gives this beer itís own identity as an IPA. There is a crisp feel to this beer that is unlike most IPAs. It has a hoppy flavor but does not carry the same bitterness that digs into the palette and does not wear away. This beer has a light feel and a very drinkable feel.

Eh, it was a bit too bitter for me. You can definitely taste the pine, which is nice.

12 oz bottle at Loganís Roadhouse in Overland Park, Kansas. The pour ia s mostly clear golden yellow with a one inch white foamy head. The aroma is resin, bright, mix of citrus and pine. The taste is the resin hop along with some citrus, clean bitter and a bit of cracker malt. The palate is light to medium bodied with active carbonation and a clean dry soft bitter finish. Solid.

Itís a great brew! Date is notched on the label, so I know it is fresh. It is grapefruit and citrus on the smell, taste follows. Not a full body like many west coasts, but it is an excellent IPA. It is fully sessionable, and halfway through a session the lacing forms, and the simplicity of the brew comes through. Simple malt bill with a full hop bill. This is a really nice, mellow IPA. More like an American pale ale, in fact reminds me some of Daleís pale ale.

No smell. Not a lot of flavor for an IPA. pretty mild. Strongest flavor is an astringent bitterness. Slightly lemony, black pepper. Pale, not great. bland.

Bottled. Citrus and pine hops, medium maltiness with a bit of caramel but not much. Grapefruit. Straightforward and drinkable. Not exactly West Coast IMO.

11th July 2014 sees me on Balboa Island in Newport Beach, the women folk are shopping and I am thirsty, so the only option is the íVillage Pubí, the trendy, expensive and foodie place on the main drag. In here the tap selection is truly crap for a beer hunter, so I had this after a Samuel Adams íSummer Aleí. I prefered this. Clear golden pour with a white lasting head that produced some good lacing. Hoppy and bitter, thirst quenching with a citrusy backbone. Crisp and tangy, one of the best beers I have had from the Boston Beer Company, not that I have had that many.
