COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mild ales rose to popularity in the 1800s as the refreshing brew of choice for English railway laborers. This modern mild, a smooth, sweet, malty brew with a hint of ruby color, is still a satisfying choice for the end of a long day.

Cheers!

DATE TASTED: September 21, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Howard’s Pub pint glass... OCCASION: first a strong PSU win...APPEARANCE: beautiful chestnut-red body with a creamy white head; laces sporadically and slickly... AROMA: sweet,, slightly toasted oat malts with sot hops--the citrus is secondary to the doughy malts--ESB in its scent...PALATE: medium-bodied, rewardingly smooth and just substantial enough to have a presence...TASTE: malty, mild and unobtrusively sweet... OVERALL: a rather straight-laced, straight-forward, functionally sessionable beer--not one I’d seek out or miss, but one I would enjoy over a variety of mouth-rinsing macros...

Quite interesting. A little bit nutty and very thick in features. Not so strong and ejjoyable it was.

Nice creamy/tan head that disapears slowly. Light amber/ruby color with a nice aroma. Light caramel smell, bread and light hops. Definitely one Of my favorites sam adams beers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle:   Biscuity and malty, bready, soft sweetness, a little mealy.   A bit bigger than your average Mild Ale.   Looks good, good body, but a little mealy.   If you like big mealy and biscuit beers, this one is for you.

Good lasting head. Leaves streaking and clumpy lace. Clear, dirty copper. Quite mild in aroma. Caramel but dry smell. No notable hop to the nose. The caramel tastes darker than the smell, almost treacle-like. Surprising hop bitterness. Decent body, low carbonation.

Pours a beautiful ruby color, the malts and caramel flavor is nice. This is another example of Sam Adams making the "everyman" version of beers.

A steady pour into my mug creates a 1/2-finger thick, pale amber tinged, tan head. The beer is a nice brown color that shows a brilliantly clear browned amber color when held up to the light. The aroma has a fruit laden smell to it backed by caramelized malt notes with a touch of roasted, nutty brown malt character to it.

The flavor is quite sweet, and along with this comes a chewy, full body for a beer of this strength; definitely a meal in a glass. There is a light bitterness, a hint of dark grain bite, and a prickly carbonation that helps to balance the sweet, caramelized malt character just a bit.

Not bad, perhaps a touch sweet at first, but I always like drinking an interpretation of a mild.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear ruby red (duh) and has a thin head of tiny white bubbles interspersed with larger thicker clumps of foam. Aroma is mildly sweet and a little earthy. Clean malts are very enticing. Sweet rich malts up-front with a nice clean finish. Surprisingly good. It is hard to deny the ability of Sam Adams to make a good beer.

12 oz bottle- Pours clear ruby red with a one finger head that slowly reduces. Aroma is grains, malt, some caramel, sweet. The taste is sweet malt, grainy, light and sessionable. Body is medium light and carbonation is medium high. This isn’t bad, nothing I’d ever want to buy again, but not bad.
