COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Rustic Saison is an incredibly complex yet refreshing beer in the classic style of Belgian farmhouse ales. These blonde ales were traditionally brewed to quench the thirst of farmers throughout the summer months. The unique character of our brew comes from its Belgian yeast that imparts floral, fruity, and spicy flavors. These are layered with a slight earthiness and a citrusy, herbal hop character for a bright and satisfying summer brew.

draft @ redlight redlight. Spicy floral nose with hints of citrus. Pours light golden blonde with a thick white head. Crisp and citrusy with an earthy flavor, nice bitterness with a very dry finish. Not too bad for 4%.

Tap. Light notes of grain, lemongrass and faint soap. Head is large fizzy, white with fair lacing and is almost fully diminishing. Color is sparkling clear gold. Flavor is moderately acidic to start, and finishes moderatley acidic and faintly bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a fizzy carbonation. A drinkable Saison, it just doesnít go far enough into what the style should be like.

Very odd......how did such a rarely rated beer wind up in a new bar in Tupelo, MS?!?! That being said....this is my favorite style and this really let me down. Pours a cloudy gold without much of a head. Slight aroma, vegetal, yeast, and light citrus. Tastes like someone poured a hefeweizen (My least fave style) in a saison. Very esther-y, wheat, and lemon. Very light bodied. The first saison to hit the state, and meh......not going back for more.

On tap for growler fills at Half Time. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. Crisp sweet citrus, toast and wheat. A bit sweet and earthy, pepper and yeast. Musk and crisp wheat on the finish. Decent enough.

I had this as a sample at the AC Beer Fest. The other ratings are from 2007 so Iím not sure if this is the right beer but here goes. It had a nice pale amber color with a small head. The aroma was fresh grass, yeast and sour fruit. It had a nice sourness in the flavor as well. Very well balanced and quite crisp and clean. This one will take care of that summer time thirst.

Tap @ The Sushi Bar, McCall, ID: Pours a light gold color with a nice white head. The nose is yeasty with light wheat and a spicy peppery note; mild for a saison but strong for Sam Adams. Flavor is nutty and grassy, light noble hop notes and a bit of wheat. Clean finish with a very biscuity flavor. Tasty saison, very clean; not funky, but thatís not a bad thing. Approachable. Great for SA!

On tap at CIRCA, High Bridge, NJ. Clean Lines. Beer pours blonde, medium white head. Mild hop aroma, attack is smooth and mild, with a clean finish - subtle notes of grain and malt. In general, a remarkably well-balanced brew for such a smooth taste. One of Sam Adamís better offerings.

Hazy golden brew with a white head. Lively carbonation is noticeable, neat lacing effects. Aromas of wheat, and citrus. Tastes of subdued wheat, oranges, lemons, and even some faint Belgian candy sugars. A bit like a hefe. Very smooth, and easy to drink, although a bit bland for the style. Actually tasted like an extremely good pale lager with decent hints of citrus. Worth checking out if you are a fan of light ABV brews.

Sampled on tap @ 1702 Tucson, AZ; March 2011
The beer arrives from the tap with a one-finger thick, pale head that leaves quite a bit of lacing on the sides of the glass. The beer is a clear gold hue. A grassy grain note combines with a dry slightly herbal honey, whole grain cracker and even a touch of biscuit malt like character. There is some sweetness wrapped up in a fruitiness here in the nose as well, with notes of pear, apple and melon being noticeable.

As the beer first hits my mouth it tastes herbal, bitter, very hay like (more so in the finish even) and has a carbonic bite to it. The fruit character comes out after the fist sip with more of an apple and pear like note, but there is also a touch of melon rind to the flavor. This is very light bodied, it is down right quaffable and refreshing even. The finish has a grainy quality to it as well as a cracker like malt character. There is a hint of mustiness here as well as some medicinal notes that give this some characteristic Saison fermentation character. Ther eis also some notes of pepper in the finish as well as a dry, musty, slightly woody note here.

This is quite nice; I really like light and refreshing beers that have quite a bit of character to them. Having said that, this beer could use a bit more character (more hop character or a better defined yeast influence & spice would have been nice), but the body and texture are just about perfect.
