Samuel Adams Rustic Saison is an incredibly complex yet refreshing beer in the classic style of Belgian farmhouse ales. These blonde ales were traditionally brewed to quench the thirst of farmers throughout the summer months. The unique character of our brew comes from its Belgian yeast that imparts floral, fruity, and spicy flavors. These are layered with a slight earthiness and a citrusy, herbal hop character for a bright and satisfying summer brew.

Bottle from mixed pack at Nugget Market in Woodland, CA. Pours a light orange tinged gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Aroma is earthy and fruity with hints of spice. Med body. Flavor is initially citrus/fruit, then some amount of earthiness arrives, and it finished mildly spicey in combo with the foregoing. Nice. Pleasant. Not as intense as French/Belgians, but very nice.

Draft. Poured clear yellow color with an average to large frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate herbs, citrus and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium spice sweet flavor with a medium spice sweet finish of moderate duration. I would recommend this to a friend.

A golden blonde saison with a thick frothy off white head. In aroma, a pleasant spiced mix of cloves, coriander, curacao, quite nice and fruity. In mouth, an almost lager like offering with crisp malts overlayed by light coriander, chalky, dissapointing. On tap at PA Flavor, April 9th, 2011.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with an average, frothy white head, medium-short retention with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (toasted hay, biscuit, light caramel), light hops (floral, spicy), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of boiled peanuts and dates. Flavor is buttered toast and biscuits with lightly roasted caramel notes, peanuts, lightly spicy and minty hops, and lightly tart. Light body and low warmth, medium carbonation with a dry finish. I think the brewers focused too much on the "rustic" part of this Saison and ended up missing the mark a good bit.

12 ounce bottle from Harris Teeter Barracks Charlottesville, VA. Opened 4/28/11. Pours a clear golden color with a thin creamy white head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus, bubblegum and bready notes. The taste is leafy hops, bubblegum, fruity notes and a faint bit of nuttiness. Medium bodied. A little odd.
