Sammy’s scotch ale made me want to wear a kilt and do a little jig in my living room. Delicious and satisfying to the senses, however can slightly taste and smell the stealthy presence of alcohol which was secretly plotting and operating behind closed doors. What it was plotting for the life of me I do not know, however upon further scrutiny it may have had something to do with me tying one on. At this point I concur. Cheers!

Bottle. Amber red with a fair head. Very malty with a nice light roast to it. Fair but lacking in substance.

Part of their mixed Cabin 12-pack purchased in Vermont. Pour a clear light copper with golden highlights. Warm cap with good retention and lacing. Caramel malt aromas with dark fruit notes and hints of nuts. Wet mouthfeel with a nice dryish finish. Smoked malt taste giving whiskey notes. Some dark fruits and decent hops. Hints of wood even. A better than average Scotch ale. Quite liked this one.

Bottle from a mixed pack at work. Really a surprisingly nice scotch ale with sweet dark malt and a hint of smoke. Tasty.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a tulip glass. The appearance is an awesome clear red amber with a small white head. The aroma has that scotch ale dirty sock aroma that I do not like. The taste is malt and alcohol.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle. Aroma is very light, increasing over time, with hints of caramel and hops. Pours crystal clear deep copper with minimal head and slight, quickly-diminishing lacing. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly caramel, with some maltiness and breadiness, not strong or particulalry sweet. Finishes bitter with lingering grapefruit. Not bad, but probably won’t buy again.

Pours a clear copper color with a medium off white head. The aroma is caramel, a very light hop character. Taste is also malty with caramel and some mild earthy hops. Good beer to be mass produced

I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours a reddish brown color with a nice off-white head and some lacing. The aroma was a little weak with hints of smoke, bread, and sweet malt. The taste was toffee, and faint hints of smoke and chocolate. This was decent. I’m not a huge fan of this style though.

Am I overrating a Sam Adams? I don’t think so. This has a slight head and some lacing, and poured from the bottle a gorgeous clear dark amber. The scotch is more pronounced on the nose but slightly understated past the taste buds, which I like; shouldn’t get overwhelming after a few weeks like other Scotch ales.
