Samuel Adams® Summer Ale is an American wheat ale. This summer seasonal uses malted wheat, lemon zest and Grains of Paradise, a rare pepper from Africa first used as a brewing spice in the 13th century, to create a crisp taste, spicy flavor and medium body. The ale fermentation imparts a background tropical fruit note reminiscent of mangos and peaches. All of these flavors come together to create a thirst quenching, clean finishing beer perfect for those warm summer days.

Poured a cloudy golden color with fluffy white head. Aromas of lemon, wheat, hay. Taste followed the nose. Light body and thin texture. Bubbly carbonation. Refreshing to drink in the summer. Similar to a shandy.

Aroma is wheat citrus and what I guess is the grains of paradise. Would pass for a Wit easily. Appearance is hazy light orange with medium frothy off white head. Taste is citrus orange forward, wheat, peach tangy aroma hopping and light hop bitterness. Palate is medium light. Sweetness and a light bitterness lingers. Overall a nice beer. The citrus comes across as slightly artificial but still not bad. Could just as easily call this a Belgian Wit.

poured from a bottle. Light golden straw color with very thin head and minimal lacing. Bread and biscuits in the nose with a faint peppery finish. Small amount of honey sweetness with light citrus at the end of the palate. Slightly dry finish.

12 oz bottle poured at my brother’s house in Methuen, MA. Pours a hazy golden with no head; not as cloudy as many other wheat beers i’ve had. Smells of lemon and a touch of pepper. Taste is mostly peppery. Not great but drinkable.

A smooth and lightly creamy ale. Just a hint of fruitiness and a strong spiced flavor. Very crisp finish.

Draft at Applebee’s (Dover, DE). Pours cloudy, yellow a small white head. Aroma of wheat, yeast and some citrus notes. Taste consistent: wheat, citrus fruit and some yeast. Crisp, refreshing, nothing out of the ordinary but not bad at all.

Very light aroma, vaguely fruity, could not detect lemon. Appearance typical for a wheat beer. Taste biscuity, fruity, light. Mouthfeel is lightly creamy.
