COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams® Summer Ale is an American wheat ale. This summer seasonal uses malted wheat, lemon zest and Grains of Paradise, a rare pepper from Africa first used as a brewing spice in the 13th century, to create a crisp taste, spicy flavor and medium body. The ale fermentation imparts a background tropical fruit note reminiscent of mangos and peaches. All of these flavors come together to create a thirst quenching, clean finishing beer perfect for those warm summer days.

From a 12 ounce bottle into a shaker pint glass. FROM NOTES: August 23, ’12. A: Lemons and citrus. Some hops and other grains. A: Poured a cloudy straw color with no head and minimal lacing. T: Wheat, lemon, little bit of hops in the aftertaste. P: Pretty thin mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. O: Acceptable and drinkable, but not a beer worth seeking out.

Pale burnished gold with tight white head. Fruity lemon and mango rind on nose. Medium body with perfect carbonation, lemon peel, biscuit malt, spicey yeast finish. Really good example of a golden ale.

Bottle from Rhythm & Booze, Ripon. Cloudy amber with little head. Pretty bland example of a wheat beer. Refreshing enough and a little citrus coming through, but nothing special.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2014 Tap: Golden-yellow with an apparent, unfiltered haze and a big, chunky white head that settles on top and leaves behind a few good morsels of lacing. Aroma is very, very mild & hard to grab at first. Earthy & musty hops, hint of wheat, faint citrus zest. Not much else... very muzzled. Taste is similarly light with some bright but faint lemon zest, orange flesh, and musky, dirty hops in the finish. Soft wheat & grain in the back-end with a mild and nearly creamy mouth feel. Not offensive at all, just slightly mediocre in the sense that there isn’t much going on at all.

Medium golden amber color, medium white head. Aroma of light citrus and straw. Taste is similar, but little of the wheaty characteristics of a weizen.
