Samuel Adams® Summer Ale is an American wheat ale. This summer seasonal uses malted wheat, lemon zest and Grains of Paradise, a rare pepper from Africa first used as a brewing spice in the 13th century, to create a crisp taste, spicy flavor and medium body. The ale fermentation imparts a background tropical fruit note reminiscent of mangos and peaches. All of these flavors come together to create a thirst quenching, clean finishing beer perfect for those warm summer days.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy golden color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is lemon and spice, with the taste that follows with slight sweetness. Body is light which makes this an easy and refreshing beer to drink. Definitely a go-to lawn cutting beer.

On draft at a diner in Houston airport. Pours a hazy gold with no head. Aroma is of wheat, hops and a little citrus. Taste is OK. Oily mouth feel. Floral and citrussy taste. Quite hoppy with a bitter aftertaste

bottle. Poured hazy straw coloured with a thinning bleach white head. Nice malted wheat aroma. Light body with a creamy mouthfeel, finishes clean. Flavour of malted wheat with a breadiness that I wasn’t expecting, lemony citrus notes and a hint of pepper. A really nice session wheat.

Smell is faint wheat, malt, and dough. Pale yellow, with minimal white head. Taste is slightly sweet, malty and finishes with a slight bitterness. Light bodied, crisp, average carbonation. It’s alright but nothing really all that special.

Pours golden yellow from tap. Little head. No aroma. Taste is citrus and spice with some hops. Refreshing. Good as a summer style beer but doesn’t really do much interesting. A little rough carbonation.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2014 Deep gold, cloudy, tall head, little lace. Charming, yeasty, bready nose. Medium body, smooth, creamy texture, highly carbonated, bright mouthfeel, medium flavor intensity, perfectly balanced, good length. Dry but a sweetish touch, low bitterness, refreshing acidity, almost tart, which disguises sweetness. Yeasty, slight taste of lemon peel, discretely honeyed towards the end. Very enjoyable and well rounded session beer.
