COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams® Summer Ale is an American wheat ale. This summer seasonal uses malted wheat, lemon zest and Grains of Paradise, a rare pepper from Africa first used as a brewing spice in the 13th century, to create a crisp taste, spicy flavor and medium body. The ale fermentation imparts a background tropical fruit note reminiscent of mangos and peaches. All of these flavors come together to create a thirst quenching, clean finishing beer perfect for those warm summer days.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2009 I don’t like wheat beers. This has a murky amber color, a slight musty woody aroma, flavor is light of hops and overtones of citrus and wood. The wheat beer flavor adds a twang in the aftertaste. Finish is not as refreshing and crisp as might expect, a little of musty bread and lemon. If you like wheat beer you would see it differently.

Basically no aroma on this one at all. Pours a lackluster yellow with an off-white head. Flavor is bitter but not in a good way. This beer doesn’t have much going for it.

Tap@Jolly Scholar, Cleveland, USA. Light/medium aroma with honey, citrus and some fruits. Fresh. Light yellow color with small artificially white head and hazy liquid. Medium taste with citrus and fruits. Narrow taste spectrum and short aftertaste with fruits. Light/medium body with high/medium carbonation. Overall, bit artificial and lame, still refreshing.

Sample @ Giant Eagle Market District. Pours a dark amber with a thin white head. Aroma of wheat and lemon zest. Strong flavor of wheat with a little spicy pepper. Little to no carbonation. Kind of flat with a warm dry finish. Not at all like a good Weizenbier. Blah.

Draught. Oatey with a light citrus hit. Tastes more calorific than terrific.

Tasted from draft. Pours a murky orange with nice white head. Good lacing. Aroma is lemon, orange and tropical fruits. Taste is moderately sweet with fruity notes. You do get a faint peppery taste at the end with some orange, lemon, mango flavors. Not too bad. Definitely better than blue moon. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12-ounce bottles poured into a pilsner glass. Not bad, but pretty average compared to other Sam Adams’ offerings. A little thin, but just right for drinking on its own in warm weather. Not the best beer to have along with a meal.

This one takes me back. Back to summers when I was a 21 year old in New England, thinking this was as inventive as beer could get. "Actual lemon zest in the beer?? These guys are CRAZY!" Coming back to it now, it’s still entertaining and it actually does taste pretty good on a hot day. But there’s no denying that it’s also a bit of a bitter, muddied mess. Thanks for the memories, though, Sam!

Originally rated on 5/19/08. A slightly above average beer all the way around, its flavor had hints of lemon and was slightly peppery. A light body but not watery. all and all its worth a try.

Small frothy offwhite head. Fair lacing. Mostly diminishing. Cloudy beige thick body. Aroma: dried banana, wort, moderate yeasty. Initial flavor: moderate sweet. Final flavor: moderate sweet light bitter; average duration. Palate: medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic finish. Tastes like work and black tea. Not alluring at all. Estufa. Low drinkability. 6s Bitter disappointment.

Nice fresh lemon zest with hints of grain. Easy to drink, a bit grainy, very refreshing. Sweetish malty fresh with a smooth lemon fresh aftertaste. Nice refreshing!
