COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This wily red IPA gets its character from the Tasmanian hops that are full of grapefruit, pine and earthy notes creating a bold flavor that threads throughout the taste. The hops are balanced by a core of roasty malts that give this brew body and richness with hints of toffee. This flavorful brew is rounded and smooth with a dry and citrusy hop finish.

Pint at Tylers Apex. Good.aroma, sweet. Initial malty sweetness gives way to a peppery citrusy scent. Clean reddish orange. Good initial head, faded quick, minor lace. Sweet bitter flavor. Medium body, oily creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Fine, not quite grabbing me, aroma got better as warmed. Aroma best part. Orange, Caramel mix.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2012 Bomber. Pours a deep mahogany with a dense, well-retained beige head that that left plenty of lace. The aroma offers is of roasted malt, some nuttiness, and piney hops. The taste is fairly bitter with the hops in a suppporting role to the malty backbone. A little denser that I would have imagined, but a very nice ale overall.

Pours a deep copper color with a Tokyo tan head. There is a slightly piney and hoppy aroma. The body is dry and the flavor is mildly malty with hints of bread, hops and caramel.

Deep amber with a thin cream colored head. Nose is fresh hops, tropical fruits, thick, sweet malts. Nice thickness, rich caramel and toffee malt, citrusy, bitter finish.

Bottle. Pours a deep ruby with a fairly decent sudsy head and aromas that are a bit bland for an IPA... A little bit of soap, very light citrus, toffee and caramel, but I probably have that backwards as the malt notes drive this beer’s nose. Flavor is similarly disappointing... I’m thinking "Where are the hops?" as I sip this caramel heavy beer that I would classify as a nicely hopped amber or something. There is a decent bitterness and a kind of soapy and grapefruit presence, but since this is supposed to showcase Tasmanian hops, I was hoping it would really do so boldly. It’s good, but not what I was hoping for.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a cola glow and a nice, perfect two centimetre tall thick tan head. Aroma of earthy malt, a caramel bite, some light and mellow english hops and a smooth rather nutty finish. Medium-bodied; Strong hop flavour at first of pine and toffee with a lot of malt behind and a grassy, herbal and nutty finish. Aftertaste shows some alcohol, a touch of nuts, a ton of earth and not much hops at all, actually. Overall, pretty disappointing, but this was kind of expected as this is as Sam Adams product. Not much hops at all and much more of a malty flavour than anything else - not even a great malt at that. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 18-November-2011 for US$4.99 sampled at home in Washington on 16-February-2012. This was Batch #1 - maybe they changed the recipe and made it better?

Pours a clear garnet/amber with a big long lasting light tan head. Aroma is toasted malt , pine and citrus. Taste is sweet malt, buttery bisquits, pink grapefruit and soft hop bitterness. Well balanced; excellent brew.

Some place in Rockville, MD 650ml ($6): Pours a reddish color with a really nice creamy beige head. Aroma is on the malty side, a little earthy, some fruitiness I suppose, but really not that much. Bitter towards the back. A little sweet at the front. Tingling aftertaste from the nice hops. Medium bodied for sure. Good balance of flavors. A good random buy methinks.

Poured into a 10oz glass, out of the tap. Very limited on the tap i think. Pretty expensive beer, but i think its worth it, i dont think i have ever had a red ipa, and im not sure if its a different hop that i am tasting, but something is like nothing i have had before. Its very good.
