This wily red IPA gets its character from the Tasmanian hops that are full of grapefruit, pine and earthy notes creating a bold flavor that threads throughout the taste. The hops are balanced by a core of roasty malts that give this brew body and richness with hints of toffee. This flavorful brew is rounded and smooth with a dry and citrusy hop finish.

Pours deep brownish red. 1+ finger light brown head with moderate lacing. Medium body with hints of caramel, dark bread and nuts, Moderate bitterness balances nicely with the malts. Long finish with more caramel, toffee and some lingering herbal bitterness. Very nice.

1pint 6oz. Btl. Pours a gorgeous dark reddish color, frothy and fizzy. Aroma is light but pine and fruity hints are present. Taste is lively, bitter and hoppy. Tingles the palate. Finish is pleasant and true to red IPAs. Great beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Impressive large, thick head that settles slowly. The broth is ruby red in color where plenty of light shines through. Clear. Good ring lace. Good hop bite to the nose. There’s an unusual earthy smell I wasn’t expecting. I categorize this as "funky". The flavor matches the smell. The malt comes across as dry, earthy and almost astringent. Good hop presence in the swallow. The aftertaste is long lasting and very well balanced. The body and carbonation are predictable for the style.

Love the red color... Balanced... Not bitter... Not hoppy... Nice malty character with caramel notes and a hint of smokiness... Unique and full bodied ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Batch No.1 (Oct, 2011?) A: Cola colored with red hues below a full finger of latte foam and spotty lace. Excellent clarity. S: Tea, citrus, resin, Spice (cumin?) over an english style malt bill. T: Sweet and malty with some spice (nearly rye spicy) not much hop character in the flavor (similar to the Dub IPA, third voyage IIRC). Pretty simple. M: heavy and light carb with a thick slick finish. Spot on. O: Not bad, wouldn’t be my first choice for a red, or even my top five. Needs more balance between the amount of hops offered in the olfactory which doesn’t carry into the tastebuds. Serving type: bottle 11-27-2011

Surprisingly complex and full beer from sam adams inc. Caramel, spicy rye, salty hops, sweet toffee, and heart of palm dipped in brown sugar. Worth trying if you see it.

January 28th, 2012 - Boston Beer Company’s Tasman Red pushes the New Zealand hops profile with new and interesting territory in their Tasman Red Red IPA. It pours a beautiful deep red, and from the almost-crimson brew comes a skunk, pungent, botanical hops, replete with savory boiled artichoke. It’s full and textured, and also new and unexpected. And in the taste, too, artichoke appears, almost like munching on a perfectly cooked artichoke heart, with touches of toffee and caramel to make it a strange, but delicious treat. This flavor profile is bold, but if this is a representative sample, I’m game for new New Zealand hops in my beers.

Bottle. Rich and malty unlike most IPAs. Beautiful murky reddish brown body with a yellowish tan head. Lots of hops on the tongue unlike those absent from the nose. More of an Amerixan Strong or dry barley wine than an IPA. Very good.

Malty and sweet aroma, dark red appearance, earthy and balanced taste. Tasmanian hops work well. Sweeter than normal for an IPA, and better red IPA’s are in the market, but overall worth a taste.
