This wily red IPA gets its character from the Tasmanian hops that are full of grapefruit, pine and earthy notes creating a bold flavor that threads throughout the taste. The hops are balanced by a core of roasty malts that give this brew body and richness with hints of toffee. This flavorful brew is rounded and smooth with a dry and citrusy hop finish.

22 oz bottle. Pours ruby in color. Aroma of tea leaves, pine, grapefruit, pineapple, grass. Flavor is grapefruit, tea, pine with a sweetness of molasses. Fairly bitter and dry, but not overly so.

Pours a beautiful dark red, with a nice head. Moderate bitterness when the ale hits your palate, very citrusy with strong flavor of sour grapefruit. The beer is medium to heavy bodied with a long bitter finish. Good IPA, but not for the meek, IBUs ?

Cedar nose with subtle grapefruit hints, mainly woody. Crystal clear rust, thick yellow sticky head. Cherry and oak flavor. Well balanced, quaffable. A little piney in the finish. Well hopped, but not with the varieties I’ve come to enjoy in reds/imperial reds. Despite that, I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Reddish pour, off white head. Lots of resinous hops and sticky toffee malt aroma. Flavor is much the same...a bit of diesel fuel...not bad.

22oz bottle Batch 1 12/12/11 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-40° in Shaker-Pours a dark amber almost brown with a small loose tan head. Aroma of hops, pine, malt, and caramel. Taste of hops, caramel, malt, and toffee. This medium to full bodied brew is well balanced and goes down easy. Nice job.

Sexy reddish brown color with generous head. Beautiful appearance. Nose is assertive with fresh hoppy citrus, pine, and hint of holiday spice aromas. Palate offers a clean taste, good balance of piney citrusy hops and candied malt, with an oily quality across the palate. Medium bodied and very drinkable. Spectacular beer, but I just wish it was gentler on the wallet.

Batch 1. 22oz bottle. Deep Ruby color, light tan head of thick foam. Aroma of spicy malts, heavy deep caramels, earthy pine hops. The smell alone reminds me of the aroma of the Rogue Brewery the first time I walked in. Mmm, good. Nice pine and grapefruit, heavy malts, all around. The flavor continues to deliver. Toasted malts, heavy toffee, deep grain character. Bitterness lingers on the palate, nice grapefruit, with an odd medicinal hop note. So well done, very impressive. Loads of toasted malts, then the leather character, and pine bark bitterness... superb! I absolutely loved this brew. Merry Christmas to me.
