This wily red IPA gets its character from the Tasmanian hops that are full of grapefruit, pine and earthy notes creating a bold flavor that threads throughout the taste. The hops are balanced by a core of roasty malts that give this brew body and richness with hints of toffee. This flavorful brew is rounded and smooth with a dry and citrusy hop finish.

12oz bottle poured into my ipa glass. Pours a dark reddish amber color with a thick light tan head that leaves great lacing. Smells of caramel, toffee, citrus and pine. Tastes of all the same things in the smell. Mouthfeel is medium and oily with decent carbonation. Pretty good beer concept that works. Nice maltiness and hop balance making this a tasty brew. Wonder what some age would do for this since its ageable according to the bottle.

Amber easy caramel notes, a bit sweet to the palate. For a Sam Adams it is a very good simple to drink beer.

Sammy has a wide array of brews. Some are mainstream and others like the New World push the boundaries of brew. Malty head. Hoppy aroma. Smooth finish, not bad. A very safe brew. Passable but not extraordinary.

12oz bottle served in a Sam Adams perfect pint glass A - Pours a reddish pecan stained amber with a yellow/beige head that leaves circle webbed lacing behind. S - Sweet citrus and pine jumps right out, dense caramel and toffee malts, slightly toasted. T - Big and bright grapefruit create a bitter/sweet but dry start. The malt is not as present as the nose describes. Nice toasted caramel and barley flavors with a sweet character there but itís light as the hops seem to dry it out quite a bit. A dash of pine mixes in with the grapefruit bitterness and carries through to the dry finish. M - Thick and full feel, medium carbonation. This blurs the line of an amber and ipa but either way this is a tasty brew. Nice play of hops and malts. Dry citrus hops combat big toasted malt flavors creating a clean finish. Bottle from Sendiks in Brookfield. Pours a reddish amber with a white head. Aroma has sweet caramel, bread, pine and citrus. Taste is of citrusy caramel, bittersweet, with some pine. Medium bodied. Leaned more to the malty side of bittersweet down through the glass.

Shared a cool-looking tall brown bottle into nonic pint glasses. It poured a near-opaque reddish brown colour with tan foam, long-lasting with crazy amount of Belgian lace. Absolutely beautiful appearance. Harmonious aromas and flavours of grapefruit, pine resin, black currants, freshly-cut grass, freshly-sawn wood, bread, toast, apricots, plums, golden raisins, caramel, brown sugar and molasses. Very malty, very hoppy, very fruity, very well-balanced. This beer is a great example of tons of flavour packed into a bottle, without any single aspect overwhelming the others. Rare and delicious. Reminded me of New Belgium Red Hoptober, but even bigger. Apparently I love the combination of Topaz and Galaxy hops with some Special-B malt.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2013 Tons of thick red foamy head. Deep bitterness but it softens quickly. Very tasty. Somewhat sweet. Thanks Seymour!

My bottle [660ml] shared with HogTownHarry, jercraigs & mabel. Batch No. 2. Pours a deep ruby with an average size long-lasting fluffy tan head. Lots of lacing. Aroma is fruity and sweet along with light hops. Flavour of caramel malt, fruit and the Tasmanian hops, of which I donít much care for. Medium bodied. I didnít love this, itís O.K.

Dark amber pour with nice tan head. Aroma starts with a nice pine hop but also has great roasted malt to balance it out. The flavor has a nice hoppy IPA taste but also has a great toffee malt finish. This is a really good unique offering of an IPA from Sam Adams.

This is also a good IPA. Nice rounded flavor. A bit piney and some bitterness like a grapefruit. Beautiful red color as well. Nice beer.
