This unique double IPA takes the style’s origins a step further. IPAs were born out of making an ale that could sustain a long voyage. For our take, we were inspired by the indomitable Capt. James Cook whose 3rd voyage made him the first to navigate a treacherous route from England to New Zealand to the Pacific Northwest. Using Cascade hops from each of these regions we created a brew that’s citrusy, earthy and full of bold character.

Nice well balanced double IPA; comparative deficit was nose which was relatively light on the aromatic hops; beer itself was well balanced with balance toward the bittering hops side. Good beer

Bottle - Pours dark amber, white head. Big aroma of citrus fruit, ripened other fruit, flowers, spice, and fruit loops. Flavor is bold... big smack of citrus, with fermented fruit, pancakes, lemon peel...hoppy finish. Medium bodied.

Wonderful pour on this brew. Huge thick white lingering head. Delicious flavor of light grass and while this is a double ipa, it comes in very smooth.

Bottle from Westmire beverage. The color is a clear copper with a thick beige head and nice lace. The aroma is of hops and citrus fruits. The taste also as above plus sweet malt, yeast and notes of some kind of spice, the 8% alcohol is not that noticable. The finish has a nice bitterness that I like.

Amazing smooth flavor. I never would have guessed it was an 8%. Not overly hoppy not thick and heavy, nice. Surprised that it was a Boston. Tap.

Poured from a Bomber into a tulip glass. Aroma- Has a hop smell with some malt tossed in. Appearance- A copper colored brew with a medium to large white head. Taste- A Double IPA with a healthy dose of grapefruit flavor. Palate- A medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Overall- I did not care for this beer. I was surprised I normally am I fan of SA beers. I was not a fan of the heavy grapefruit flavor.

Aroma lovely. Fresh floral citrusy. Murky appearance. Excellent bitter hoppy full boddied. Rich. Maybe a little over the top hoppy. Long finish. Lingers in the mouth for a long time - even after you drink other beers.

Bottle fizzed over when opened. Poured with lots of thick head that dissipated, leaving a thick white layer on top. Cloudy caramel color. Aroma of sweet malt and a little bitterness, almost sour. Consistency is a little thick, starts with the malt sweetness, layers of roasted malt and a bitter finish. Interesting, could be better with a more pleasant aroma.

I would point out that the Yorkshireman James Cook, beloved of New Zealand and toast of Georgian Britain, died on his third voyage, murdered by enthusiastic locals in Hawaii, poor bastard. This is toward the end of an evening and I have enjoyed a few remarkable ales tonight, yet I still want hops, similar to Cook’s unquenchable thirst for the unknown. This was golden amber in the glass with an enduring white head like a sorbet in a glass on its own. The aroma is complex: fruity initially with tropical aromas of mango, orange peel, guava and ripe melon atop floral hibiscus, limes and perfumy jasmine. The aroma is tops with me. Perfect. The flavour is mouthfilling and genuinely bitter: gooseberry, astringent kiwifruit, lemon mint and savoury chlorophyll. There is an appreciable bitterness that prolongs the experience and rewards the intrepid. Let’s not forget that Cook was a Yorkshireman and appreciated endurance. He’d be happy with this. Aye.
