COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams continues to expand their Small Batch Series in 2012. On the schedule is Verloren, and gose. There arenít a lot of U.S. brewers making a gose, especially a brewery as large as Boston Beer. Thatís probably why they dubbed it ďVerlorenĒ or ďlostĒ beer . (Itís Dutch.) The style originated in Goselar, Germany in the 18th century. Gose became very popular the adjacent city of Leipzig, Germany due to a lot of local breweries brewing the style. Gose all but died out during WWII due to brewery closings. Expect this beer to have a touch of sourness, with notes of lemon & salt. A link to the ales of Saxony that had all but vanished, Gose is a peculiar yet captivating brew. With a base of an unfiltered wheat ale, itís vivid and refreshing yet also has a softness to it. The flavor is brought to life by an unexpected touch of salt for a mineral quality, and coriander for a peppery spice. The result is an unusual and delicate brew thatís full of flavors to discover. Batch #1

Bottle at Sam Adams Longshot event. Pours a slightly hazed orangey gold with a sticky head. Nose is earthy, faint yogurt notes and citrus. Some bready wheat as well. On tasting, light acidity, could definitely use more. Some soft coriander herbal and citrus notes and a full minerally mouthfeel without the saltiness. Nice and clean and very refreshing. Biggest beef is that it could use more acidity to really make it pop. Okay.

20120629 bomber from Wine Source. As SA beers go, this is a great one. As gose goes, so so. Lightly clouded medium amber with small lasting white head. The aroma is peach cobbler with some mildly sour doughy notes. Nice coating mouth feel but just slightly tart and refreshing. A bit sweeter than Iíd hoped, but with the pleasant late esters of a good hefe. Not a bad attempt, but light years behind the Triumph gose I pine for.

Mild herbal aroma, pours a clear amber with a full white head. The salt and the spices create a complex beer, thatís light on the palate, and refreshing on a warm summer night. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer.

500ml bottle poured a golden yellow color, aromas of salt water, and a touch of light citrus. Flavors are all salt, almost as much as a brine treatment. Each sip made me want more to quench my thirst, saltest beer Iíve had for sure.

Malty aroma has firm fruity and yeasty notes. It pours a clear golden amber with a fairly thick, if not too persistent, off-white head. Flavor has a malty core with subtle notes of apple and banana and a hoppy, but not bitter, undertone. Or is that coriander? I get a touch of that. Salt? Well, a teeny bit of salt. Salt in beer? Thatís the most unheard-of thing Iíve ever heard. Ha ha. (Or tasted.) OK, enough being a wisenheimer. Smooth texture has firm body and a fair bit of fizz, leaving a rather persistent tingle on the lips and tongue. I hope that Samuel Adams keeps us this series.

Bottle. Hazy orange gold with a dense off white head. Beautiful lacing. Wheaty malty base, with a citric hint and a very slightly salty finish. Subtle, balanced, and actually quite refreshing. Sam Adams has hits and misses, and continues growing bigger than anyone probably ever expected. But itís nice to see them staying true to their craft brewing roots and brewing wacky styles like Gose.

bottle. hazy gold with a large, fluffy, white head. strong vanilla cake mix aroma. medium-full bodied and creamy palate. flavor is yeasty and malty with vanilla. not really salty or spicy. missing the salty, tart twang but a tasty beer anyhow.

Medium Body. Good malt base with a lemon flavor. There is a spiciness that has the flavor of aster.
