COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams continues to expand their Small Batch Series in 2012. On the schedule is Verloren, and gose. There arenít a lot of U.S. brewers making a gose, especially a brewery as large as Boston Beer. Thatís probably why they dubbed it ďVerlorenĒ or ďlostĒ beer . (Itís Dutch.) The style originated in Goselar, Germany in the 18th century. Gose became very popular the adjacent city of Leipzig, Germany due to a lot of local breweries brewing the style. Gose all but died out during WWII due to brewery closings. Expect this beer to have a touch of sourness, with notes of lemon & salt. A link to the ales of Saxony that had all but vanished, Gose is a peculiar yet captivating brew. With a base of an unfiltered wheat ale, itís vivid and refreshing yet also has a softness to it. The flavor is brought to life by an unexpected touch of salt for a mineral quality, and coriander for a peppery spice. The result is an unusual and delicate brew thatís full of flavors to discover. Batch #1

Hazy amber pour. Big white head. Aroma of plastic sea salt, dough, brine, wheat and honey. Tastes of rye bread, corriander and honey. Strong malt flavor with also significant bitter. A hearty savory brew full of flavor. Sorta soft grainy mouthfeel. Light carb. A bit too thick on the mouthfeel.

bottle. Deep golden with small head. I was expecting this to be more out there than it turned out to be. Light bodied with a bit of coriander. Donít really detect any sourness.

Wish I would have gotten a bottle of this instead of only having it as an option for like $8/10z or some bullshit at Tylerís in Durham. Free taste instead? Yes, please. Hazy pale gold pour, and a thin, small head. Taste is meyer lemon, orange, coriander, pale tart wheat, and a bit of salt. Thin palate. Solid, but forget it for that price.

madvike (2581) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 17, 2013
Bottle - Pours clear amber with a thin soapy white head. Nose is coriander, lightly soured wheat, and a pretty pungent plastic note. Some caramelly tones try to peek through. Taste has coriander and mineral, lightly toasted caramel malt, and a touch of saltiness on the finish, along with some very gentle citrus. The plastic is still there a bit, but nowhere near as much as the nose. Smooth and fluffy in the mouth, with soft carbonation.

The beer pours a hazy yellow. it is kind of sweet with a very mild sour note. the wheat aroma and flavor comes through a lot and there is a mild saltiness at the end. the mouth feel was very creamy and it had a light to medium body.

Wittales (564) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JUL 11, 2013
Appearance was hazy orangish gold with diminishing whitish tiny head, no lacing. Aromas are citrus fruits, wheat, pale sweet malt with touch of sourness and spice. Taste are fruits of lemon, orange, tangerine, cherry, soft smooth wheat and salt, no alcohol. Palate is soft creamy smooth CO2 with light-medium body, lasting fruity and salt, slighty citrusy bitterness. As Gosesí goes this is good representation of style.

Pours clear gold with a small white head. Lightly floral aroma. Taste is somewhat floral wheat. Iím getting some salt, but not overpowering. No hops. Meh. The label is probably the best part of this beer.
