COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams continues to expand their Small Batch Series in 2012. On the schedule is Verloren, and gose. There aren’t a lot of U.S. brewers making a gose, especially a brewery as large as Boston Beer. That’s probably why they dubbed it “Verloren” or “lost” beer . (It’s Dutch.) The style originated in Goselar, Germany in the 18th century. Gose became very popular the adjacent city of Leipzig, Germany due to a lot of local breweries brewing the style. Gose all but died out during WWII due to brewery closings. Expect this beer to have a touch of sourness, with notes of lemon & salt. A link to the ales of Saxony that had all but vanished, Gose is a peculiar yet captivating brew. With a base of an unfiltered wheat ale, it’s vivid and refreshing yet also has a softness to it. The flavor is brought to life by an unexpected touch of salt for a mineral quality, and coriander for a peppery spice. The result is an unusual and delicate brew that’s full of flavors to discover. Bottle from Amity, New Haven. Pours a clear dark amber color with a large white head. Good head retention. Aroma of candied lemons, spice and mild salt. The taste is pure lemons balanced by mild brininess and significant bliss. Medium bodied and quite a pleasant surpise.

Draft danish pour. Golden pour with a slight white head. Lightly floral aroma. Taste is a bit floral and pepper, but really overpowered by the salt. They really wanted you to know this has salt in it. Could never drink a full glass of this.

Beerenberger (791) - Fischer, Texas, USA - MAY 19, 2013
The aroma is chiefly citrus while also being slightly acetic. Moderate sweetness is noted. Tangerine, lemon (???) with hints of biscuit. Pours a cloudy orange with a long lasting off-white head and minimal lacing. The taste is citrusy, with notes of salt and grain in the finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Overall, while the taste is subdued, I think this would be a good summer sipper.

Draft. Interesting. Nice low % with flavor. Kind of sick so it's tough to taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lightly hazy copper - nose is surprisingly sweet (honey), but with an interesting and complex floral and herbal character to it, strong coriander, and light salt - a light acidity as well - I’m actually really digging the nose - the flavor falls a bit sort, but is still fairly interesting - lightly sweet, with just a light tartness on the tail end - I tend to want more tartness or sourness from this style, but the acidity is quenching enough - notes of white grape, moderate herbal notes, light mineral qualities from the salt - lightly spicy and tart finish - lingering dry mineral on the tongue - subtle, and not entirely what I was hoping for, but I wound up enjoying it quite a bit.
