3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
One of the better Sam beers with a slight spicyness that is not overdone as with their winter brew.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 21, 2003 Very pretty clear amber beer. NOse of fine toasted malt and a bit of spicy hops. The flavor is complex toasted and caramel malts. So well made. Reminds me quite a bit of Lakefront Stein beer, but unfortunately the pasteurization process appears to have robbed this one of what I bet would be brilliant highlights.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer pours a limpid deep copper color, the head massive, but desiccates quickly, leaving a fine sheet of lace, both light tan in color. Malts dominate the nose, but clean and fresh nonetheless. Front has light sweet malt taste, the top middling. This beer finishes with a gratifying hopped presence and is charmingly acidic with a droughty aftertaste. Quite a pleasant drinking beer as “Lagers/Pils”, as my past ranting and ravings has shown are not my favorite style, but I like this one. Ranks #686 on my current 1000 beer master list.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Huge rocky head tops a smooth clear copper body. Nose is weak; some maltines, some fruitiness (berries) but pretty underwhelming. I’m not all that impressed with the flavor, either. Reasonably malty and with a hint of hops, but really nothing stands out; moderately sweet, slightly thin on the body, hint of smokiness and earth tones, but just not much going on. I guess this is par for the course for SA these days, sigh.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark-amber-brown in color with a medium head. Very malty aroma (sticky caramel) with a slight hoppy spice. Sweetish start bitter finish. A bitter aftertaste that only lasts a short while.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear red body, small off-white head, malty nose. Malty body with a hint of hops. A bit one-dimensional, but quite drinkable.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pretty wicked. I don’t like any vieannas besides this one. Rich, a bit toasty, and lots of malt. Nice color, too.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice ruby color, lasting head around the edges. Wants to be sweet and caramel-like then some bitterness kicks in at the finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Reddish brown color. Medium head. Slightly malty aroma with a hint of fruitiness. Medium bodied ale. Nicely malty, taste of toffee and caramel, slightly sweet. Hops are slightly spicy. There is a slightly fruity taste to this beer. Smooth taste. Very drinkable. Hope that Sam Adams adds this beer to their regular everyday lineup. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a slight malt sweetness.
