3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
25th July 2009
Very slightly hazy amber beer. Smooth dry palate. Rich dry spicy malt with a strong finish of bubblegum and aniseedy alcohol. Warming afterglow. A bit different for a Witbier. Brandyish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Originally reviewed: 12/20/10. Part of the Winter mix pack. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a slightly cloudy pale gold. A thin white head rest atop. Fair retention; left some good lace behind. The nose is pretty basic. Some light spices, wet hay, citrus zest. Smooth feel, with a crisp bite on the finish. Some faint citrus like lemon and orange in the flavor. More bready than anticipated. This isn’t one of the more spicy Wits out there, but it hits the spot. Also, I’m not sure this is the season for this style, but no matter. A good beer, just not necessarily a good Witbier.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted 12 oz bottle into nucleated pint glass. Slightly hazy golden color with fluffy, aromatic off-white foam. Soft, round spiced wheat ale flavors and aromas. Some spices were added, nicely blending with the Belgian-style yeast to suggest citrus, clove, banana, pepper. A bit watery and muted compared to classic examples, but pretty good. Crisp, dry finish.

Bottle. Hazy light caramel creamy white head. Smells like bread and spice and tin. But of a buttery flavor. Light and round.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A winter ale is meant to have some grit to it with all the extra spices and sugars. This one does not have that, but the flavors are still pretty good.

12oz bottle -
Blue Moon tends to get all the glory with the uninformed, but this beer runs rings around Blue Moon and just showcases how great an American made wibier can be. Just oozing with a juicy orange aroma, lots of black pepper, light bread and some fruity esters. Flavor echoes the aroma with tons of fruity notes, orange juice/peel, coriander, black bepper. It’s a beautiful poor, cloudy orange body with a rich, thick 1/2" head. My wish would be to see this beer at the lips of Blue Moon drinkers and they’d see how much better this really is.
