Belgian style white ales have a long history of unique ingredients, as brewers experimented with spices discovered during the spice trade. For our hazy brew we found a refreshing combination of crisp wheat, the tangy sweetness of tangerine & orange peel, and the subtle spiciness of coriander & grains of paradise. Cheers!

Bottle, Faint bland aroma and flavors. A bit of the citrus and Belgian notes, but drap and with a chalky feel. Papery at the end too. Disappointing.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold body with a small fizzy white head. The nose is a little too heavy on the coriander for my tastes, it smells a bit soapy. A hefty citrus peel aroma as well with a little yeastiness and wheat. The flavor is pretty similar to what I thought was coming based on the nose, an overly spiced and rather typical American interpretation of a Wit. Not a whole lot of flavors coming from the yeast, not much makes it past all the citrus peel and coriander. Finishes with a bit of soapy coriander and orange zest. Fairly soft on the mouthfeel with gentle carbonation. Pretty poor Wit, but I’m sure those with limited exposure to them might like it just fine.

Pours a cloudy yellow with a fairly big head for a wit bier. Aromas of citrus and spice, coriander. Refreshing citrus sweetness with a smooth finish. Solid, well-made beer.

Not very exciting but it’s a good wheat ale without much anything wrong with it. It could be smoother, earthier, but that’s about it. The real setback is the fact that this tastes like most other Americanized Belgian Whites. That said, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to turn this down if I was offered one.

White Lantern channels the classic witbier style while subtly tweaking certain aspects adding an amped up fruitiness that works well. Medium bodies with sprtizy carbonation cleanses the palate between each sip. Coriander is strong in the fade. The nose is somewhat vegetal, however.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Bottle. A- Hints of lemon, citrus, spice. A- Golden color, hazy liquid, thin white head. T- Notes of lemon, orange and coriander. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth citrusy finish. O- Reminds me of a Hoegaarden with less spice and more citrus. A very refreshing offering from Sam Adams.
