Sam Adams Whitewater IPA. A wheat ale brewed with apricots & spices.
This hazy brew combines the crisp character of a white ale with the intense pine and citrus flavors of an India Pale Ale. We took the unique combination to a new level with the sublet addition of apricots, which provide a slight sweetness to balance the bitterness of the hops. Cheers!

Bottle. Slightly hazy medium bronze body with a dense, slightly off white head. The nose has plenty of grapefruit and peanuts. There is also some hint of pears and black pepper. The taste is largely grapefruit rind, but there is also some sharp soap. A woody bark like finish is a little off putting. It smelled promising, but there is no malt balance to the brew.

Sampled on 1/27/2012. This IPA pours a slightly cloudy medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, citrusy, piney and floral. A medium bodied India Pale Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, and there is a touch of apricot and tropical sweetness. The hops are citrusy, floral and grapefruity. A very intense IPA from Sam Adams. Nice balance. Good carbonation. A medium to highly bitter IPA. The bitterness tends to linger. A touch of yeast as well. I really like the dry finish on this beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, dry and crisp. Aftertaste is fairly bitter.

Light hazy gold with a big white head. Citrus and pine aromas. Grapefruit flavor with fruit and resinous notes. Fairly dry finish. Medium body with medium-high carbonation.

A hoppy wheat beer, really that is what this is. I am now going to make sure I have 75 characters or more. It is...a good...hoppy...wheat...beer.

12oz from the recent box, from the Kroger. Handsome, lustrous orange pour with a medium sticky head. Nose a bit too sweet, though there are some bittering hops detectable in there. Nice mouthfeel with a bit of a tickle from the carbonation, but a slightly syrupy finish. Itís a problematic beer in some respects because itís just hoppy enough to be a dissatisfying IPA but weirdly clashing as a wheat. Decent peppery and floral flavors in the finish but a disjointed beer overall.

Pairs a white ale with an IPA although the whilte ale wins over a bit. I wish it was less sweet but still a very solid beer and a cool version of an IPA.

Bottle at Friday afternoon work function. Pretty nice IPA. Huge head and foam. The definitely goes towards the pine and resin taste of hops. Long, lingering, bitter finish. Good.

I must say, this is the third new brew to me in Sam Adamís Spring seasonal sampler and I think the brewery is really stepping it up w/ this years selection. All three have been not only interesting but well brewed. I hope they keep it up. This one pours a very hazy orange color w/ a big white head of fine bubbles that leaves sheets of lace behind after each sip. This has the kind of hoppy nose that hits you right when you open the bottle. Itís generally fruity w/ lots of peach and pineapple but thereís a strong undercurrent of pine as well. I was worried based on the description this would be sweet but itís medium dry and quite bitter in the finish. Itís light bodied but in such a way that it does not come off at all as watery. I am not quite sure what the claimed spices are but Iím not really getting them too specifically. Iím guessing thereís some coriander which is just blending in w/ the hops. Overall, this is a really nicely put together hybrid and Iím going to be looking for a six pack next time I go to the store.

~Strong piney aroma with grapefruit and apricot. ~Pours a cloudy white orange color with small white head. ~Citrusy piney flavor grapefruit and apricot. ~Medium body. med CO2, quick bitter finish. ~Enjoyable IPA. Nothing really special. Wish the spices came out a tad more. The hops overpower.

Bottle; poured a dark wheat gold, a bit murky. A dark wheat look. Aroma of earth, citrus, fruit, grapefruit, with an underlying note of wheat. Alot of grapefruit, citrus and earth notes in the flavor. Some wheat elements in the finish. All in all, a solid IPA.
