JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Dec 27, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a dark reddish amber with a one inch off-white head. Aroma of malt and more malt that is caramelly and sweet. I dunno that I can call this a weizenbock. This did not really have the weizen part, of which I am not complaining one bit. More like just a winter ale that is brewed like a lager. Super malty flavor with a tiny bit of yeast, some hop and a medium finish. TOSG55 (75), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Dec 23, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear amber, with a nice head. Aroma of malt, spices, and a bit of lemon. The flavor is caramel malt, with notes of yeast, and just a bit of spice. Not too complex, but very drinkable, and probably my favorite in the Sam Adams line. brewski519 (395), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Dec 22, 2008 Pours a dark amber color with a decent tannish creamy head. Aroma of some malt, spices, and nutmeg. All three come three in the taste as well along with some cinnamon and even a little citrus was detected. Decent winter beer - kind of a happy medium between their Boston Lager and a true winter "warmer". machfive55 (218), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 22, 2008 Poured a dark amber with a nice head. The beer was malty and creamy with a slight hopiness. It starts and finishes clean. This is a solid beer. Very basic and very drinkable. I put this beer as a spin on the boston lager, slightly maltier, slightly darker than the boston lager. Excellent, would make a very good session beer. unixweb (237), Sherman, Texas, USA Dec 21, 2008 Nice amber color with a hint of red, very pleasant carbonation from the bottle as it is poured. The taste is initially sweet, a bit heavy on the palate, but it softens to spice and hops, and stays there til the end. There is a lot of malt in this for a domestic brew, and it does manage to come through in the taste. Overall, I really like this one, and its become one of my wifes favorites. It would get an even higher score if there were something really special in the taste, like a strong taste of spice or chocolate or caramel or whatever, but there isnt. Its sweet (even a bit sticky), malty, with qualities from several types of ale. Thats a good thing, but it has no real identity of its own. Still, for something I can pick up at any neighborhood grocery store, this is a great find! DalzAle (476), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Dec 21, 2008 Light amber colored pour with a slight carbonation, pleasant caramel aroma. Flavor was intially spicy and sweet with a little malt aftertaste. Good mainstream winter lager. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 20, 2008 12oz bottle from Jans Wine and Boos#1 (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown amber color with red highlights. Massive twi finger tan head settles slowly and heavily laces the glass. Aroma is slightly malty and wheaty with some slight notes of chocolate, spice, and caramel. Flavor is malty and slightly sweet with notes of wet sour hay, some caramel and nut overtones, faint bitterness toward finish. Generally light to medium body with a slightly bitter malt finish. A little too watery and devoid of flavor for a winter/christmas beer. rader58 (166), Leawood, Kansas, USA Dec 20, 2008 Clear amber color, aroma is very slight well rounded hoppy flavor with slight spice and slightly bitter finish
