UPDATED: JAN 7, 2004 Weizen bock? Didn't seem like it. A little Bock-ish, but it's filtered, making it crystal clear. I had no idea this was a weizenbock when I drank it. Overall not bad, but as with other Sam Adams I've had, nothing stands out, so it's unimpressive. Very clean and malty though, like a bock. Smells better than it tastes. Re-rate 1/7/04: Initially sweet and wheat, no yeast notes, very weak finish. Beautiful to look at though.

Slight fruit nose with plenty of spice. Goes down well on a cool evening. The hops is there but hardly overpowering.

Copper body, creamy head. pleasant cranberry nose with spices and malts. Lots of stuff going on there. Plenty of barley & decent malt backup. A remarkable aroma.

This is my favorite from the winter sampler. It is the kind of quality that I would hope to get the Boston Beer Company. Good flavor, not too hoppy, but they are noticed, and the aroma is pleasant.

Quite dark in color, aroma is malty, pleasant hints of spice/fruit. Flavor is also pleasant and fairly well balanced, however does not inspire or approach Victory’s effort.

Good beer. Nice spicy aroma, disapponintingly small head though. Nice balance of bitter with the sweet, not much wheat flavor, could use more to my taste. Nice winter brew, one of the best.

One of Sammy’s best beers. Malty, spucey aroma. Sweet without being syruppy, as may beers of this style can be. Well balanced. Must be a very small percentage of wheat, to be nearly impercievable.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2003 Re-rate, draught, poured a nice amber color with a thin white head aroma was malty and sweet with nutmeg and hops. Inital taste was good hitting the nutmeg and malt notes from the aroma. Aftertaste was kind of sour/ranicd. Very disappointing

Malty and sweet, but could be thicker. This is still a macrobrewed beer. Decent flavor, but can’t compete with its microbrewed cousins.
