WakeandBake (422), Greenville, Michigan, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bottle.A nice dark copper pour with a one finger white head. Aroma is of sweet caramel malt and some spice. The flavor really shines, sweet malt with a hint of citrus, some cinnamon, maybe some coriander ,very balanced. Creamy mouthfeel, with soft carbonation, and a dash of hops in the finish. A solid offering. Thanks Sam

TeamTrappist (367), jericho, New York, USA Nov 19, 2008 Tap. Poured a thinnish red/brown, with no head. Had a sort of sour and malty nose. Flavor was similar to the nose, and to their regular lager with some mild spice notes. This is very malty in throughout and in the finish. Not my first choice. gringo332 (237), Richardson, Texas, USA Nov 18, 2008 Updated: Nov 19, 2008I was pleasantly surprised by this brew. A nice amber red. Sweet with hint of cinnamon. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Nov 18, 2008 Warm copper red color. Small head quickly retreats to little slick of lace. Malt, coffee, maybe the faintest hint of fruit on the nose, but I may be reaching too. Quick bitter bite jumps to hint of sweetness to nothing much at all. Eh. UriahHeep (103), Georgia, USA Nov 18, 2008 Poured mahogany with little head. Aroma of caramel, nut and cinnamon. Taste is sweet wheat up front with little hoppiness and a faint malt backbone. Syrupy and sticky with a medium mouthfeel. The smoothness of the drink belies the ABV, which is moderately high. Pretty solid beer, but not a ’’home run.’’ 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Nov 17, 2008 12 oz bottle into shaker. Good looking with a crystal clear nutty brown amber color and a tall frothy cream-colored head that leaves nice lace. The aroma includes hint of nut, oak, hops, yeast, wheat, and some dark sweet fruit. Flavor is very nice and remarkably balanced with hints of sweet citrus upfront with some wheaty clove character and some cereal notes too. It has a light bitter finish that lingers and a sweet (just the right sweet too, not overly sweet) cherry vanilla flavor that carries throughout, from the swallow through the finish. Solid medium body with a fairly dense mouth feel and soft elegant carbonation. Overall: one of the best Sam Adams, and lagers in general, that I have ever had. Gives a fresh Boston lager a run for its money for best SA. VitaminR (422), Colorado, USA Nov 2, 2008 Raisiny malty nose with hints of dates and cinnamon. Ultra reddish amber, small but frothy head. Rich malt and maple fig sweetness, good clean hop bitterness for balance. Full carbonation, medium body, finishes slightly thin. Good complex maltiness with solid balance. Could use a little more body to provide some backbone to the flavors. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Nov 2, 2008 Poured into a pint glass. Dark copper color with a light tan head that fades to a nebulous cap. Big thick sweet malt aroma with some cinnamon and wheaty esters. Flavor is less sweet with dark malts, ginger, and noble hops. Semi dry finish, thinnish body. No real distinguishing features here. Needs to be thicker and sweeter to be a good winter beer.
