HonkeyBra (1279), Lemont, Illinois, USA Oct 26, 2008 Pours a dark clear brown with a thick white head. Aroma of caramel and spices: cinnamon, clove, some wheat, etc and so forth. Flavor has a bunch of spice with burnt caramel sugar. Finishes kind of spicey with some hop. My favorite Sam Adams seasonal by a landslide. mctous (119), Herndon, Virginia, USA Oct 24, 2008 The nutmeg really blends well with the wheat aroma without overwhelming it. Sam’s Winter Lager pours with just-right carbonation and plenty of lacing and head retention. The flavor is very clean with subdued wheat and noble hop flavors. The spice lingers in the finish, detracting somewhat from the palate. The mouthfeel is just right. Overall a well-brewed weizenbock which just lacks the complexity and depth of its German counterparts. Underhook (162), Lincoln Park, New Jersey, USA Oct 24, 2008 Updated: Nov 19, 2008Pours a bronze/brown with an orange tint. Thick, white head. Smells super malty. Tastes of a bit of clove and wheat, mostly caramel malt, a bit vinous. No hops to speak of. Adequate carbonation- something that BBC always seems to get perfectly right. Very good stuff, here. Try it out. mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA Oct 24, 2008 16 oz draft poured a nut brown with an off white head. Alot of spice in the aroma. Some caramel in the body and nutmeg. A bit syrupy for my liking, but a n ice beer to move us into winter. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 21, 2008 Clear copper red color with a thin off white head. Slight nutty aroma, harsh metallic plums, bready but weak overall. Body is spicy, caramel and cinnamon sweet, amber malts and an even hop and spice finish. fidelis83 (709), Clinton, Iowa, USA Oct 16, 2008 Pours deep orange-brown with a 1 finger beige head that fades pretty slowly. Aroma is spicy hops, vanilla, a little citrus, lots of sweet bread malts and cinnamon. Flavor is more spicy hops, cloves, wheat, cinnamon, burnt orange citrus hops and alcohol. Finish is warming alcohol and the spicy notes carrying through. Body is medium, warm and rather slick. beerchugger (286), Colorado, USA Oct 15, 2008 It has a deep amber color with a nice off-white head that lingers for a little. The lacing is decent. Smells slighty of hops and spices. The taste is pretty good with a decent amount of spices that is not too overpowering. I really like Sam Adams, they are fairly solid brewery and most of their brews are done rather well. borgination (101), Lee, Massachusetts, USA Oct 9, 2008 It has an amber body with strong spice and clove aroma. Starts with a strong clove and finishes with a sweet cinnamon aftertaste. A good beer for company during the holidays.
