Aroma is hoppy and grassy, with subtle hints of flower and spice. Parallel flavors. Clean, perky, hoppy, herbal, and leafy. Mouthfeel is fun and creamy but palate ends on the thin side, making this a pleasant winter session beer. Nice alternative to the formulaic American spiced winter ales and a nice change of pace overall. Plus, it’s ubiquitous and inexpensive.
Re-rated Nov 2008. Is poor compared to what I remembered. Diacetyl present in aroma, detracting from the overall enjoyment. Gobot (15), commerce twp, Michigan, USA

It has a rustic color and has a good taste of toasted malt, spices, slight hop presence to help balance it out..Nice winter lager that you find any where. Overall a solid performer year after year!

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 21, 2008 This beer is pretty middle of the road. I liked it better a bit cold though. When it was warm I thought it had too much of an ’herbal’ taste to it. BMan1113VR (2813), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Aroma is sweet grainy malts with piney hops and some spices with a touch of yeast. Pour yeilds a clear amber-tinged brown beer with a large off-white head that has good lacing. Flavor finishes bitter and salty but pleasent. Yeasty aftertaste. Watery body and fizzy carbonation, but doesnt go down exceptionally smoothly. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Pours a more reddish amber color with a white head. Subtle fruit and spice flavor, not bad but significantly better on tap. Haslinger (642), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 20, 2008 A decent offering from Sam Adams. Didn’t seem quite as compromised as some of their other "seasonal brews" nothing great but I hear it is better on tap. Wouldn’t buy again Naka (525), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 20, 2008 On tap. Clear amber color with a small white head. Smells of sweet malts, some fruit, and spice. Flavor has a really good malt character. Some toffee and spice. Not as much body as I would like from a winter lager.
