3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Translucent crimson brown, with medium head retention. Splendidly pungent aroma consisting of caramel, malt, nuts and cinnamon. Stays true to its label as a lager given its thin and relatively light body, although slightly creamy. Exceptionally smooth combination of flavours that directly emulates what’s present in the aroma, with some extremely minor hops during the finish. Very nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
355ml bottle from Appellation Wines.
Appearance - didn’t expect it to be a deep copper colour. Nice fluffy head.
Nose - light biscuit malts and spice.
Taste - fruitcake, with dried oranges.
Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish.
Overall - what a lovely little beer.

2.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Samuel Adams Winter Lager Seasonal is a bit too thin for my liking. As winter lagers go, this beer has a deep nutty brown color with a slight spiced aroma. I wish that this beer had a deeper aroma. From a taste perspective, this beer is simply boring. The spicy aroma doesn't transfer into the taste.
On second taste of this beer, it is a tad bit better than my original evaluation depicts. In my opinion, it is better served a little bit warmer than straight from the fridge. As this beer warms up, the orange and spices come out in richer flavors!

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Beautiful dark amber color--almost copper in color. Looks more carbonated in glass than on the tongue. Pretty bright on the front of the palate. Bitter taste as it enters back of mouth, slightly citrusy, but not enough to cut the bitterness. Leaves a bitter aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours a brown tinged red colour with nice aroma of malts, some yeastiness? Spices coming through on the aftertaste. Enjoyable enough.

Pours clear chestnut brown with a thin beige head, moderate retention, very fine lacing. Aromas of toffee, toast, grass, nuts, orange. Light body, smooth, velvety. Mildly sweet, light bitter finish. Well balanced and very drinkable. Very little in the way of spice.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2015 12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s. Nose of bready caramel and yeast. Rich copper color supporting a foamy head that settles into a thick skin. Flavor is caramel and molasses on a bready malt base up front with a bit of cinnamon and spice toward the finish. Nice balance. Little bitterness. Lively carbonation. Flavorful w/o being too rich. Very satisfying winter seasonal.
