Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

Sam Adams Winter Lager starts with an aroma of spices such as cinnamon and a hint of orange peel. It's dark deep reddish color and thick head make this lager a tough one to put down. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours clear, dark copper with big, pillowy khaki head. Decent retention, stringy lacing. Aroma is sweet, nutty, biscuit/cracker malt. Flavor is sweet up front, sweet, nutty, cracker malt, citrus, hint of toffee, spice in the finish. Drinkable, light. Soft carbonation and medium-light body.

Nice go-to seasonal brew at a chain restaurant without better options. Slight caramel notes and a touch of spice. Drinkable. Smooth. Enjoyable when I want to have a few in a row.

Sitting at the airport getting moved around on a flight, this tastes not too bad, THanks United for buying it for me. kind of weak hints of the supposed ingredients, no real hop profile tastes more like an amber lager than anything.. no punch from the spices or orange.

Bottle. A- Bland, spices. A- Dark copper color, clear liquid, white head. T- Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, spices. P- Light body, thin texture, flat carbonation, abrupt finish. O- The cinnamon tones are very pronounced. It starts off nice but develops and odd taste the warmer it gets. The head of this beer was my favorite part. The spices were great in it.

EBD 6/14. Pours a medium amber with a nice ruby hue. Solid head with a well formed lacing. Nose is of sweet malt with a bit of spice. Light medium bodied, normal carbonation and mouthfeel. The taste is quite interesting and well balanced. It has a slight sweetness over a soft spice background. Crisp finish with a carbonation burst of slight bitterness and spice. A very well done lager.

Bottle from the 12 pack Pours a slightly hazy brown amber color with a decent off white head that persists for a while leaving spotty lace on the sides. Aromas of cinnamon and citrus with a caramel brown sugary malt to back it up. The flavor is rich and dark sugary malts with a spicy citrusy bite to counter. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. I’ve had this many times in the past and its never been my favorite, but today with a grilled cheese and some cracked pepper chips it just worked.

For a beer that uses Holiday spices, Winter Lager actually pulls it off pretty well. I’d usually pass off the use of ginger and cinnamon in a lager as a gimmick. In this case, though, it’s done with some skill. This lager is spicy and sweet, yet not so much that it becomes irritating. Not my thing, but overall, it works.

The pour is into a pilsener glass and the appearance is somewhat a golden color yielding a somewhat rocky looking white foamy head that dies within a minute; lacing clings well; the smell has the bitter hops up front yet a dry muted sort of fruitiness comes through; light winter spices; the taste is sweet yet also kinda spicy; decent bitter yet spicy yet sweet aftertaste; dry bitter spicy finish; pretty good on the palate, sessionable enough to have with food and throughout my life has paired extremely well with any wintery food overall, no hate from me on Sam Adams Winter Lager, great stuff
