BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Nov 25, 2007 Poured from a bottle. Poured a deep ruby color with a nice off-white head. Aroma od wheat and malts. Sweet malt up front with some spiciness peaking through. Finish is a wheaty flavor with a slight tart flavor. Easy to drink, but not thrilling. FLnative80 (174), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 25, 2007 Draft. Dark amber color with cream colored head. Aromas of malt, spice, and wheat with a similar flavor with the only exception being some tartness. Average, but often the best available at many mainstream restaurants. greenleaf (90), Florida, USA Nov 25, 2007 Bottle. Pours brownish red with a an offwhite head, decent, with rings left in glass as you drink. Malty caramel toasty, but not rich enough for my winter choice. There is a lasting sweetness after drinking. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 25, 2007 Copying from my tasting notes. Bottle. Nice copper pour with a thin off white head. Nice toasted malt aroma. Nice mouth feel with a smooth finish. Not bad. AOF (282), Naperville, Illinois, USA Nov 24, 2007 23 oz draft, BW3 Plainfield, IL. Dark, heavy copper color with a thin white head. Sweet toasted malt aromas. Hints of caramel, roasted nuts and piney hops. Slightly sticky on the palate with a thin bitter finish. swanmann (304), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Nov 24, 2007 12oz bottle poured toasty orange and clear with quickly subsiding tan head. Smells like intensely caramelized sugars and warm alcohol. Tastes a bit sweet and sour. Strong sweet yeasts perhaps, with subtle bitter hops and a light syrupy quality, but no real finish. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 24, 2007 12oz bottle from the Winter Classics sampler. Pours a really nice looking reddish amber body with an off white head. Mostly lasting, leaves a ring of creamy foam atop the beer, and sheets of lacing. Impressive. Nose is caramel and toffee malt sweetness, some floral hops, maybe a touch of some wheat in there but not much at all. Also get some faint fruit notes. Nose is muted though, which detracts some. Fore is some spice, sweetness from the malts; back of the tongue brings some bitterness and a touch of a watery note as well. Palate is slick, carbonation is average, light to medium bodied, a bit watery as well. Finishes with a kind of weird sweetness that sticks around for quite a while, but I can’t say it’s pleasing or anything that is bringing me back for another taste. 37steel (186), St. Charles, Illinois, USA Nov 24, 2007 On draft. Clear dark amber with a small off-white head. Nose is spicy with a bit of sweet malt. Spicy flavors. Fairly well balanced, not too sweet. Easy drinking.
