Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 24, 2007 12oz bottle from the Winter Classics sampler. Pours a really nice looking reddish amber body with an off white head. Mostly lasting, leaves a ring of creamy foam atop the beer, and sheets of lacing. Impressive. Nose is caramel and toffee malt sweetness, some floral hops, maybe a touch of some wheat in there but not much at all. Also get some faint fruit notes. Nose is muted though, which detracts some. Fore is some spice, sweetness from the malts; back of the tongue brings some bitterness and a touch of a watery note as well. Palate is slick, carbonation is average, light to medium bodied, a bit watery as well. Finishes with a kind of weird sweetness that sticks around for quite a while, but I can’t say it’s pleasing or anything that is bringing me back for another taste. 37steel (186), St. Charles, Illinois, USA Nov 24, 2007 On draft. Clear dark amber with a small off-white head. Nose is spicy with a bit of sweet malt. Spicy flavors. Fairly well balanced, not too sweet. Easy drinking. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Nov 24, 2007 Bottle, Pours a clear amber color with a small white head, hmm not very cloudy for a wiezenbock. Not a bad brew, but for being a winter brew or a wiezen bock hmm it falls short in my opinion but so do so many SA brews. Its an easy drinker though. Hammster (187), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Nov 23, 2007 Bottle. Clear amber pour with a large offf-white head. Malty aroma with a hint of raosted nut notes. Taste is pretty smooth and mild malts. Finish is raosted malts and mild. Decent. FatguyRacer (129), Crownsville, Maryland, USA Nov 23, 2007 On tap. The pub switched over from Octoberfest to Winter Lager. I found it to be as nice a brew with alot of the same flavors as the Octoberfest, but not as bold. Tilley4 (218), Huron, Tennessee, USA Nov 23, 2007 The first time that I tried this beer, I enjoyed it and wanted to give it another shot so I could rate it. After having a couple this evening, I wasn’t so impressed. The beer looks pretty good, it’s a nice dark brown color. Sort of smells like an average beer, hops and malt. Eh.... This tastes like a regular Sam Adams Boston Lager to me, maybe a little richer but I couldn’t tell a huge difference. I like my winter choices to have a little more teeth than this one. It’s not a bad beer or anything, it’s enjoyable, but it wouldn’t be my first choice. pintocb (508), Darsville, Georgia, USA Nov 22, 2007 Dark brown beer. Smells yeasty with some spices. The flavor pretty much backs up the nose. Nothing special here, but a drinkable brew. Typical Sam. This is a very effictive cross over beer with some "noobs". rugbydude05 (280), Kew Gardens, New York, USA Nov 22, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Poured a dark amber color, clear. Subtle aroma, smelled of fresh hops. Flavor was very average, and i thought the alcohol taste was too prominent. Sits very well on the palate. I would recommend especially in the holiday season.
