DubC5000 (195), San Diego, California, USA Nov 11, 2007 Updated: Sep 23, 2009Can definitely detect wheat in the aroma, which is otherwise very dry and toast-like. Very warm, malty flavor despite the ice-cold temperature I’m drinking this at; I can see how this would make a good warming brew in the cold climes. Good carbonation balance, not quite as much as a traditional lager but it fits the flavor profile appropriately. Alcohol becomes apparent farther in, but never quite overtakes the malt. nd1748 (40), dundalk, Maryland, USA Nov 10, 2007 had this on tap great flavor nice level of hops coper color with little head. a very decent beer blueturk (68), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Nov 10, 2007 Nice copper color with light aroma of spices and sweetness. Medium body with balanced bitterness. A decent beer. RealAleDave (45), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 10, 2007 Clear light mahogany. Extremely fine beige head settles stickily to a complete cap that leaves nice lacing. This is a beautiful beer.
Nose is light caramel malt with good depth to it, ably supported by herbal hop notes. Tiniest hint of orange zest.
Good load of malt leads the palate. Some caramelly richness, but this stays quite light on its feet. Nice balancing bitterness, and a long, well-balanced finish.
Mouthfeel is quite nice. Again, it seems lighter than most bock interpretations, but that’s fine with me. Very, even dangerously, drinkable.
Apart from a hint of orange, I’ve never picked up any spicing in this beer. Ditto the impact of the wheat in the grist - if I hadn’t read it on the label, I’d never have guessed it. All that being said, the end result is a delicious beer that I drink ton of during the winter. 12 oz. bottle - best before April, 2008. Bcoble003 (100), Dalton, Ohio, USA Nov 10, 2007 wowie wow! nice dark copper color sweet smell very impressive brew i like this beer i cant explain why though. TET (226), Finland Nov 10, 2007 Very beautiful red brown beer with rich white head. There is sweetness and conifers in the aroma. Flavour is balanced with sweetness, hoppiness and spicess. Palate is brilliant smooth and pleasant. Interesting and absolutely worth to try. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Nov 10, 2007 12oz bottle notched Best Before April (’08). Clear copper brown with a 1 1/2 finger light beige head, good retention. Aroma is quite malty with walnuts and chocolate malts. Maybe a hint of earthy hops, but maybe I just wanted them to be there. Flavor is much the same, fairly sweet though not overwhelmingly so, but other than semidry finish I couldn’t pick up on the hops--the minimal bitterness seemed more to come from the malts. Thinner body than I would’ve liked with moderate carbonation. Didn’t really seem like any weizenbocks I’ve had. Not too bad, but far from exceptional. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Nov 10, 2007 From bottle : What a beautiful pour on this bad boy. Drank out of a Weizen, gives a big two and a half finger wide head, a white rocky head. Dark copper color with a generous amount of slow moving carbonation. Complex malts on the nose, caramel, wheat, and maybe some bread dough, and spices. All that hype, then the flavor really lets down. A little watery, exp. for something that is suppose to be enjoyed in the cold weather. Yeasty and wheat flavor with a hint of spice. Great look, but not much for taste.
