COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

This beer is okay. It doesn’t really have a strong flavor or character. I expected more from this winter lager. I’d drink it again if it was given to me, but I wouldn’t buy it.

The good folks at ratebeer have it about right with a 64 for this one. Sort of a strange brew- doesn’t really have that inner warming effect of a good smooth stout or even a porter for me. Pours a ruby/ amber color with almost no head retention. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Cinnamon and ginger come through as well as the malt. Decently balanced, pretty smooth. Just not my favorite combination of flavors. Had on tap at Rita’s in Folly Beach.

The aroma is dominated by cinnamon and ginger. It is amber with a thick light tan head. The taste is dominated with the cinnamon, ginger, and hints of orange as the malt is evident as an afterthought.

Dark brown poured from a tap with medium head. Tastes of malt and spices like a light porter. Decent beer.

12 oz bottle. Brown pour with little head. Mild malt flavor with some spice throughout. Nothing noteworthy to speak of.

edwardbass (481) - Illinois, USA - DEC 29, 2013
Dark reddish-brown color. Aroma of roasted malt and spices. Tastes very much like a porter with spices, with a mild bitterness. Kind of okay, but nothing really makes it worth trying again.

No aroma, no head, dark amber colour, not much taste with a bitter finish. A disappointing beer.
