Canadianlush (169), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA Nov 5, 2007 The worst Sam’s I’ve ever had. Looked OK with a dark red hinge and flakey white head but tasted just plain weird. Wheat malt? I don’t think so. I could’t detect any, to me it tasted like salty dry barley. I hope I just got a bad keg. I’ll try it again later and re-rate but for know it gets a D NPRugby11 (82), New York, USA Nov 4, 2007 If beer was only rated on how it looked this would win, beautiful deep red pour with a nice white head...but unfortunately there’s just a little too much spice here to be worth my while Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Nov 3, 2007 A nice amber color body with a light tan head. Good retention. Aroma is malty and not any wheat aroma at all. Feel is very creamy. Rye flavor jumps out as does malt and spice. A nice warming results from a surprisingly low ABV. Unique, flavorful, smooth, and delicious are a few words that describe this beer. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Nov 3, 2007 Really nice offering from Mr. Koch. A pleasant aroma which doesn’t reveal much of the flavor. Nice big head and a malty, yeasty flavor with a dry finish. valpoaj (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Nov 2, 2007 On tap at local restaurant. Aroma was relatively weak and non-remarkable. Appearance was somewhat light for a winter brew, but not unappealing. Flavor was malty and wheaty...actually a very pleasant drink during a dinner meal. Light on the palate; highly sessionable. Pretty average, but enjoyable nevertheless pamoja (57), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 2, 2007 Very comparable to Brooklyn. Nice and amber for a lager. Not too much bite. Alcohol is most prominant flavor. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Nov 2, 2007 Bottle Pours a clear amber with a two finger lasting light tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of spice, malt, wheat, and light caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium slightly thin body with a mild amount of bitterness and light spicy finish. A good sesion beer for the Winter. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Nov 1, 2007 Pours a clear reddish orange-brown with a large, dense, frothy, beige head that diminishes slowly. On the nose are notes of copper, toasty malt and a light simple syrup, along with an oddly astringent note in the background. On the light side of medium-bodied, the palate is soft and slick with a quick finish that just whispers at the presence of hops. A nice, round, lightly spicy malty front with a touch of earthy hops on the finish. This one is definitely all about the malt. A tasty, malty seasonal.
