3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
I’m shocked I haven’t rated this yet! Having it on tap at Jimmy the Greeks in Old Orchard Beach, ME. Aroma is indistinguishable from most beers. Not bad or off-putting, just not the sweet malty smell you want with a winter ale. Apperance is dark copper, thanslucent haze, pours with a thick head that dissapates quickly with nice lacing. Unfortunately, Jim Koch only uses one kind of hop so all of his beers have a similar flavor. This beer bis sweet, mild malts with light hops and a hint of spices in the background. Nicely balanced. Palate is slightly sticky sweet but not cloyingly so. Overall, it still has that Sam Adams flavor and feel that keeps it from being a superb beer. For a winter beer, it is enjoyable and drinkable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
355ml bottle, clear slightly reddish brown colour, small frothy mostly diminishing off-white head, average lacing. Heavily malty and somewhat spicy aroma of caramel, chocolate and nuts, moderate herbal hops. Taste is initially slightly sweet and acidic turning into a moderately bitter finish with a slightly alcoholic feel. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Fairly pleasant amber lager, not very distinctly spicy though. Not sure if that’s a bad thing necessarily.

Ok on tap, but nothing special for the style. Nicely balanced flavour bur not exceptional. Another good Sam Adams but not their best.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle. Pours a brown color with white head. Malty sweet aromas with hints of spices. Cinnamon, spices, malty sweet flavors. Not very much going on with this beer. I won’t bother getting this one again.

Heavier body than the regular Sam. Little sweeter. Little bit of vanilla on the aftertaste. Not much going on though.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours dark amber with a little tan head which fades down to a lace after a couple minutes. The aroma is slightly sweet and hard to place. Taste is malty but smooth. Overall I find it above average, but for the "Winter" name I expect more spice or vanilla or something a little extra.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Not a bad beer by any means. Quite drinkable but not so "Wintery". It could use a bit more spice which would also help with the aroma.

Bottle Pour, mid sized head, got a nice look to it. Dark but not too dark. Highly recommended.
