COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

Bottle. Very malty flavour. Bright chestnut colour. Aftertaste is quite spicy. Very nice and easily drinkable. A little too much carbonation for me.

Bottle. It pours a clear body, dark amber in body and a small but dense, beige head. Caramel, a touch of spices and oranges, vienna malt and some hints of ginger. Some ginger and spicyness in the flavor too, and the orange shines through as well, leaving room for lightly roasted, caramellish malts. A bit low on bitterness I think, and I would like it more full-bodied, else it’s a damn fine almost sessionable beer. Well suited for making snowmen. 110524

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2005 Bottled (BB 03/2005)
Red ruby, good foamy medium head, lace. Sweet, malty, hoppy, berries, black currant nose, almost Belgium character. Medium-bodied, chewy, flavor of toffee, berries. Aftertaste has some late bitterness. Decent brew, but a bit unbalanced. Though this is weizen bock, this has some Märzen notes. (6/4/5/3/12 3.0)
Re-rated, alc. 5.6% (BB 09/2006)
Ruby red color, creamy white head, lace. Aroma has wheat and rye, some tobacco. Medium to full bodied. Sweet, rounded barley malty flavor. Real cross over -beer of styles. (5/4/7/3/13 3.2)

Oakes (12352) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 2, 2000
UPDATED: NOV 21, 2008 Medium amber-brown colour. Thin head. Aroma is bland caramel. Tastes like diacetyl, astringent bark and roots, some caramel. Finishes with an unpleasant diacetyl slickness. This 2008 version is pretty gross.

Old rating: Dark amber; aroma shows brown sugar, spice (ginger, orange peel), sweet earthy malt. Earthy, caramelly malts. Good chewy character. Funny that the brewer kept insisting this was a traditional wheat bock, when it is not made with a weizen yeast, and it is spiced with cinnamon, ginger and orange peel! 6-3-6-3-12 = 3.0

Clear and deep amber, with minimal head. Very malty aroma and flavor. Mostly caramel, with hints of vanilla. Wheat is detectable, but only nominally.

Bottle, bought @ Kvickly, Haderslev.
Pours a lovely, clear, dark red-brown with a medium, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has raisins, caramel, toasted malts and soft milky notes. Mild sweetness. Highish carbonation, fair lightish and somewhat dry mouthfeel. Flavour has chocolate, raisins, light liqourice. Some coriander in the finish that is also light herbal dry. Quite fine.

12oz bottle-pours a light tan head and amber color. Aroma is mild medium malt. Taste is sweet medium malt, that tart fruity (cherry) yeast, secondary spicy hops. Medium body. OK carbonation.
