3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Beautiful amber color. Quite good, mainly characterized by the caramel, with a more clear hoppy note in the aroma and a bold final, but a bit too metallic.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. It pours a clear body, dark amber in body and a small but dense, beige head. Caramel, a touch of spices and oranges, vienna malt and some hints of ginger. Some ginger and spicyness in the flavor too, and the orange shines through as well, leaving room for lightly roasted, caramellish malts. A bit low on bitterness I think, and I would like it more full-bodied, else it’s a damn fine almost sessionable beer. Well suited for making snowmen. 110524

Clear copper with a lasting beige head. Aroma is sweet, dried fruit, caramel, malty and spicy. Flavor is rather sweet and fairly bitter. Soft finish. A very positive surprise as I thought I was opening just another lager. 211210

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2005 Bottled (BB 03/2005)
Red ruby, good foamy medium head, lace. Sweet, malty, hoppy, berries, black currant nose, almost Belgium character. Medium-bodied, chewy, flavor of toffee, berries. Aftertaste has some late bitterness. Decent brew, but a bit unbalanced. Though this is weizen bock, this has some Märzen notes. (6/4/5/3/12 3.0)

Bottle. Very malty flavour. Bright chestnut colour. Aftertaste is quite spicy. Very nice and easily drinkable. A little too much carbonation for me.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: This one pours a clear, rich amber color with two fingers of off-white head and very nice lacing.
S: I’m not all that big of a fan of the nose on this. It’s very malty, with a lot of caramel, and it seems to be incredibly spicy. I’m okay with some mild spice in a beer, but this one is a bit too much.
T: The taste is better than the nose, that’s for certain. The caramel and malt is quite up front, with the spices much more subdued.
M: The fizziness is rather light for a lager and it’s rather full bodied as well. I haven’t had this beer in quite some time and I found this to be quite impressive.
D: This is a pretty easy drinking beer and one that you could easily have several of in a session. I’m not the biggest fan of bocks, but I found this one to be fairly enjoyable and wouldn’t turn it down if offered one.
