COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

Nice amber color with a hint of red, very pleasant carbonation from the bottle as it is poured. The taste is initially sweet, a bit heavy on the palate, but it softens to spice and hops, and stays there til the end. There is a lot of malt in this for a domestic brew, and it does manage to come through in the taste. Overall, I really like this one, and its become one of my wifes favorites. It would get an even higher score if there were something really special in the taste, like a strong taste of spice or chocolate or caramel or whatever, but there isnt. Its sweet (even a bit sticky), malty, with qualities from several types of ale. Thats a good thing, but it has no real identity of its own. Still, for something I can pick up at any neighborhood grocery store, this is a great find!

Bottle from B&M, Birmingham. Not too bad this. Had elements of a nice Bock - brown sugar, dark mushy malt grass, some warmth (not much but some). Smooth enough.

Copper coloured, good thickish white head. Lovely nose of spice/malt/caramel/herbs. Smooth, malty palate with toffee and spice creeping in on the finish, good body, and a nice long finish.....really like this, especially at 50p from B&M, I just bought one bottle, I’ll head back down tomorrow, hopefully they’ll have had a delivery!

Bottle from a while ago (obviously) Copper color with a large head with a nice amount of lacing, solid. Sweet malts and light alcohol in aroma along with light chocolate, light fruit, caramel, and maybe baking (cookies?) Flavour is similar with caramel, malts, fruits and a hint of spice. Finish isn’t strong enough at the end but it works quite well for a winter brew. Solid work.

Bottle from B&M Bargains; clear copper pour with a thin beige head, aroma has light vegetation and some spice action, taste has caramel, and robust malts, some winter spice and vegetable broth.

Beautiful beige foam and a lovely caramel flavor with notes of orange peel. Beautiful rich spices characterize the taste and add a little cinnamon, orange peel and a little cilantro. Wheat malt shines a little through and it’s fine for a beer in the winter.

355ml bottle from B&M Bargains - Clear copper body, with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is up front with metallic notes, followed by faint traces of floral notes, fruit, and caramel. As for taste, it’s mostly caramel, and doughy notes, with some faint sourness, a light floral taste, metallic hops, and a fruity finish. Not bad at all really for 79p!

5.5% 355 ml bottle from B&M. Didn’t get any of the spiciness, just a ponderous sweet malt heavy flavour. Almost indistinguishable from the S.A. Oktoberfest I had before, to the extent that I thought it might be the same beer with a different label.
