Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

A very nice session beer for winter. I’ve tasted this beer every year, but have not yet tasted it for 2004. I did note on Sam Adams website that the abv has been brought down to 5.8%. I hope that this will not lighten up on its flavor this year. I will just have to wait and see. For the best tasting weizenbocks, I would strongly suggest Schneider Aventinus or the Victory Moonglow.

Dark, reddish pour with thin beige foam. Malty nose, with notes of caramel and some spice. Medium body, slightly slick with thin fizz. The spices come out in the taste and as it warms. Nice combination of cinnamon, orange, and ginger. The malts are slightly dominant. It’s a good light-bodied variation on a winter beer.

Tummanruskea, osin punertava olut niukalla vaahdolla. Vaahtoa jää hyvin pieni kerros oluen reunalle. Tuoksussa on toisaalta makeaa maltaisuutta, mutta myös hedelmäisyyttä. Maku on hyvin balanssissa. Olut on kermaisen makea, mutta myös sopivan aavistuksen verran katkera jälkimaultaan viimeistellen onnistuneen makuelämyksen. Toimiva tapaus. 13.12.2013: Punertavan kuparinruskea olut kivalla reilun sentin pitsiä jättävällä vaahtokerroksella. Tuoksu karamellisen maltainen, tumman marjainen sekä hieman kermainen. Maku marjaisen mausteinen, hieman karamellisen makea ja aavistuksen katkera ja kuivattava jälkipuoliskoltaan.

En brændt smag, måske ikke så meget jul efter min mening men det gør nu ikke øllen dårligere af den grund. Ikke meget humlesmag, hvilket jo tilgengæld passer fint til en juleøl.

Not bad compared to most lagers I’ve had, dark red in color with a spicy taste to it, not much aftertaste

Mild smell, caramel color, very clear, thin head lets beer breathe. Lager taste with after off flavor, mild to start then odd.

On tap @ Beaufort Pub Belleville. Pours a clear Amber with a small off-white head. Aromas are sweet malts (biscuit, honey) and a little grain. Tastes are mild biscuit, some spice. Medium body and carbonation, medium grainy finish. Definitely much more character than a typical lager. Not too bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
