COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Winter Lager is the deep ruby color. Then comes the magical aroma which promises something special on the tongue. The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor. On the palate Samuel Adams Winter Lager is rich and full bodied, robust and warming, a wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that come with the season.

This beer isn’t terrible, although the appearance is the best quality of this beer. Light mouth feel, minimal hops. Decent amount of alcohol for a winter lager, although technically this is more of a bock. Worth trying a 6 pack.

"this beer used to fall strictly into the average beer catergory, but it’s grown on me a little. while i won’t go out of my way to get one, it’s pleasant, slightly spiced and slighty heavier body is a welcome addition to the fridge during the colder months. to me, it’s just a spiced SA Boston, but that’s pretty good. 2010 - this beer has been going a little downhill for me - pretty disinterested now...still ok

God kryddig lager både i smak och doft. Saknade bara lite mer beska. Flaska från Systembolaget. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I used to really like this before they changed the recipe. The old brew had lots of ginger and cinnamon on the nose and palate. Now, with the orange peel added to it, the citrus note is kind of off putting for what the beer is trying to be. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours amber in color, the aroma is sweet and roasty. The flavor is slightly bitter up front and finishes very sweet and spiced. Not a bad beer but not my favorite.

Transfer from BA review on 11-20-12- Poured from bottle in to pint glass Appearance – Pours a darker amber brown color with a one finger off white head. The head has decent retention fading to give a lighter level of lacing Smell – The aroma is biggest of some caramel and bready malt with notes of some spices mostly of a cinnamon and ginger nature . Taste – The taste starts out of sweet caramel and a nice toasted malt and bready taste. There are notes of cinnamon and ginger that quickly come to the taste. These flavors last throughout with some more bitter citrus flavors coming and going as the taste moves on. In the end a lightly roasted malty flavor with a very light herbal hop are left on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is average to below average. Both good for the bock nature of the brew. Overall – It is heavy and warming enough to make for a decent winter beer, but yet not too heavy to take away its more sessionalbe style.

Poured a ruby brown, with a frothy off white head. Aroma was of cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar, and roasted malts. You taste the ginger, cinnamon, and roasted malts, but it doesn’t go together that well. Kind of a root beer feel to it. Has a medium thin body with average carbonation. You get the ginger in the aftertaste, but is quite unpleasant. Could never finish the whole six pack at once. Two bottles is where I drew the limit.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle after inadvertently aging for over 8 months. Clear, orangey rust color with a 2-finger khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma heavily of toffee and cinnamon with brown sugar and other spices. Taste dominated by cinnamon, with brown bread, caramel malt, mixed spices, brown sugar, dates and light fruit playing lesser roles. Medium body and medium/high carbonation. Despite the unintentional aging, this is a rather nice spiced "winter" beer I'm enjoying in the middle of July. The cinnamon comes through too strongly, but not enough to ruin the flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Meh? Yeah. Ruby copper with an aroma of brown sugar, roasty malts and leather. Some mild bitterness on the front end that winds into a sweetish finish. Medium-thin body with a medium carbonation. Needless.

The body has a very dark coppery color with a thick off white head on top. The head is thick, creamy, has good retention and leaves some lacing on the glass as I drink. Its aroma is light with just a hint of spices coming though a modest, sweet dark malt. The flavor has a good layer of dark sweet malt with notes of sugar, caramel and lightly roasted grain mixed with just hint of spices. The spices don’t really jump out at you but they add just enough subtle complexity. The hops adds another level of leafy/spice and some bitterness for balance as well. The hops come out a little more in the finish and leave a slight mineral note behind. The palate is smooth and slick with light carbonation and a solid medium body.
