4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
From bottle. Aged 2.5 years in cellar. Ive been waiting a while to drink this beer. Smell is bitter cocoa with a surprising hint of fruit. Pours deep black and slightly thick with a big creamy tan head that lingers for about 2 minutes before lacing. Taste is rich, roasty, and sweet, with a bit of fig and yeast profile at the end. Almost no hint of the high alcohol, which makes sense from the aging. Palate is chewy, but much lighter body and mouthfeel than a lot of American Imp. Stouts. Overall excellent beer; I can see why it is a classic which other stouts were built. I was surprised how much I liked it given all the new aggressive styles.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma of sweet dried fruit and roasted malt. Flavour has strong roast malt but not extremely bitter. A degree of chocolately sweetness is present too. Slight metal in the finish but otherwise a great beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Another in my quest for the top 100 most rated beers. Pours a clear dark brown, almost black, body with a one finger fizzy light brown head that faded to a thin covering. The nose is very sweet with tons of burnt caramel. Some roast, chocolate pudding, and a light rubber note. The flavor is not crazy sweet, but there’s a fairly heavy caramel component under the burnt and roasty notes that come out a bit heavier on the finish. Not much in the way of hops or alcohol in this one. Certainly different than what we have become to expect from an Imperial Stout these days in America. Medium bodied, on the thinner side for the style, with soft fizzy carbonation. Interesting to come back and visit some of these beers that I thought were tops back in the day. Not something I think I’ll revisit again for a long while.

In bottiglia. Aroma di liquirizia, caffè, tostato, non molto fine ma abb persistente. al palato dapprima il tostato seguito da cioccolato amato e un finale con una punta di liquirizia. Nota alcoolica evidente ma non eccessiva.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Intensive chocolate and coffee aroma, but also some caramel and dark fruits. Pours black with really nice beige head which unfortunatelly doesn’t last till the end. Taste is not exatcly what I expect from lower extract RIS, but there are intensive chocolate and coffee (also lasted as a aftertaste) some roast. Low carbonated, OK. General, not as great as I wanted it to be, but as an old recipe which won medals in XVIII and XIX century is perfect.

Aroma: Blackcurrant, plum, tobacco, slightly roasty and sweet. Develops coffee and chocolate.
Appearance: Black with small tan head
Taste: Sour with a mild rounded coffee taste. Hoppy edge.
Palate: Medium bodied, slightly creamy with medium carbonation.
Overall: Lovely fruity smelling, looks delicious. Could do with a slightly bigger taste, but a great beer.

Aroma and matching flavors of dark chocolate, tobacco, dark fruit, and some slight coffee-esque notes. Tobacco notes turn me off here. Good body. Alcohol is noticeable which is a downer.

Strong coffee aroma with a hint of yeast, smooth with malt and chocolate flavours. Not the strongest or thickest imperial stout but still a great beer!
