BOTTLE 33CL. Look: almost opaque black with some red highlights and a big espresso head. Aroma: green beans (!?)- must be some bizarre yeast manifestation, a "warm" apple juice acidity, fresh fruit, rather toasted that roasted. Taste: much roastier than the aroma, same frech fruit/vegetation, moderate hop bitterness.

Quite a bizarre impy character, nevertheless quite rich and enjoyable.

Final seco, amargo. Corpo alto, licoroso. Boa cerveja.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2015 It pours dense and dark, with a toasted coloured smooth head. Also, it has such excellent taste with bitter marks and toasted coffee notes. A very good imperial stout.

Bottle @ home. Pours with a pitch black colour, small tan head. Aroma is medium malty, with rich fruity notes; other notes are coffee, dark chocolate and little licorice. Taste is medium sweet, slightly bitter, very slightly sour. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation.

Bottle at home, 16th January 15. Pours too lively for the style, big bulging head on it. Aroma is metallic, marmite, burnt malts. Taste is metallic, slight liquorice, some marmite, chocolate and booze. What really let’s this poor example of an imperial stout is the thin fizzy mouthfeel. This reality has lived up to my perception, god knows why it is so over rated here

bottle @ Party Source / Bellevue KY --- Good aroma of toasted malt. Clear very dark brown/black, full beige head cover, full sheet of lace. Taste is toasted malt that adds body as it moves through the palate, Turning more bitter as it hits a lingering finish. Straightforward, clean, a terrific brew.

Bottle. Nose is cream, touch of vanilla, hint of coco. Taste is coco, light latte, dark fruits, prunes, licorice a slightly unpleasant sweet note in the short too sweet finish. The mouthfeel is far too thin and carbonated for the style. For a long time Sam Smith was a brewer one could reliably get interesting beers from, but they have been left behind by the revolution in craft and the flagship beers are showing their age badly.

Bottle from Cornelius. Black body with a tight tan head. Good lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, Marmite and petrol. Flavour of sweet chocolate, roasted malts, burnt toast and treacle. Medium body with a smooth texture. Lively fizz. A sweet, rich Imperial Stout.

Bottle at home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and dark chocolate, hint of hops. Taste is light sweet, roasted malts, bit acidic towards the end, long dark chocolate aftertaste. Not bad.

It smell like a banana and chocolate with a bit of alcohol. Nice dark colour with good but weak foam. Taste a bit like a scotch, warm alcohol. No bitterness. A lot of sparkling, too much.
