4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I ditto everything good everyone has said about this brew. My only objection is that I found it to be a little too much in the alcohol department, not way too much, but enough that it bothered me at times. Iíll be trying Oatmeal next.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark black, almost pitch, medium tan lasting head. Aroma is of chocolate and roasted malt (much more than coffee) and strong licorice and dark fruits. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, chocolate, again strong licorice and dark fruits, roasted dry finish, weak alcohol when warm. Weaker side of full bodied and a bit creamy.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
DATE TASTED: April 7, 2015... GLASSWARE: Duvel snifter.. OCCASION: celebrating the Oís opening day win while watching the NCAA finals... APPEARANCE: ominous black body that allows a swiftly simmering brown head to halo at the glass ... AROMA: powerful rum, vinous port, strong Spaltz and chocolate make for an inviting complexity--not to mention the roasted malts that provide a wicked balance... PALATE: smooth, slick, a bit dry, yet full-bodied--a paradox resolved only through a beautifully lingering aftertaste... TASTE: chocolate, roasted cracker, slight alcohol in a whiskey-like allure; the components make for a rich, dark, strong stout that is sweet and rewarding; some nut, raisin and cask wood further the experience...OVERALL: Once more, another brewery that does so little wrong--this beer commands the taste buds with strength and subtlety, rewarding the drinker with a sweet, powerful sip...

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark with tan coloured head and a rich aroma of coffee and muted chocolate. Flavour is sweet with some molasses and palate as oily as would be expected. Not as strong as most imperial stouts but but this fact makes it a tad more drinkable than the real heavies.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black, coffee colored head. smells heavy dried fruits, raisins, coffee, but also smoked smell. full body, oily texture, obvious but soft carbonation. Smoked aftertaste. Its quite complex for a only 7% abv. That the bigest minus of this beer: too low abv. for imperial stout. Overall still quite good.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle at home. black color, coffee colored head. smells heavy dried fruits, raisins, coffee, light roasted but also light smoky smell, some sweet malts, quite interesting and nice combination. full body, oily texture, obvious but soft carbonation, tastes light smoky, malty, some light sweetness, but more roasted character, some coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, raisins again, plums, light alcoholic, overall a bit sweet, feels a bit heavy for 7 ABV (compared to other beers). light roasty / quite dry / fruity bitter finish. I had high hopes for this, and am a tad bit underwhelmed now. Its quite heavy and complex for a beer of 7 ABV, but I am having a hard time finishing a bottle of this. Overall still quite good though.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle: Black pour with deep brown edges; fluffy, deep-khaki head forms & slowly settles to a thick film. Aroma of roasted malts, laden with a rich, chocolate undertone. Chocolate bar. Hints of nuts, some residual brown sugars. Maybe some anise. Smells a bit underattenuated. Flavor is more black licorice heavy, but still has plentiful bittersweet cocoa, roast, & toasted nuts. A touch of brown sugar & caramel in the finish. Maybe some smoke? Overall, it seems like thereís a bunch going on, but itís rather mild & timid for the style. A tad thin, too. Not bad, but not great, either.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
550 ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.
Looks: Deep blackish brown colour; Three finger head with crumpety lasting dark beige foam which lasted for 4 minutes. Excellent sticky lacing with very small carbonation.
Aroma: Rich, very fragrant and sweet roasted malt, with strong cookies, fruitcakes, thick dark bread, dark chocolate, alcohol, sugar, plums, strong raisins, strong caramel, toffee, heavy cream, faint soy sauce, light milk coffee and fairly light grass. Wow!
Taste: Close to medium sweet, strongly-roasted dark malt, with strong metallic, strong roasted coffee beans, strong dark chocolate, toffee, caramel, strong raisins, strong dark bread, very light soy sauce, strong molasses, yeast, moderate lime, fairly strong bitter hops and grass.
Body: Full body; Thick and smooth palate.
Mouth Feel: Itís intense liquid dark bread all the way Ė very strong roasted dark malt in a thick body. Initial strong metallic is quickly blanketed by thick, flour-dusted dark bread. I swear I never tasted dark bread so strong in a beer so this is it! Nuts is surprisingly low. Sweetness and booze is well hidden you simply donít notice most of the time. Another bright spot is its dark chocolate, very loud and clear and I love it! Soya sauce is relatively timid. Limey hops tops it all. Very satisfying!
Hoppiness: Light grass in nose, strong lime and lemon in taste. Bitterness is moderate to high for a lasting, medium bitter sweet finish.
After taste: Fairly dry. Very roasty, dark-bready and quite rich to mouth.
Comments: Donít think this one will impress due to its rather low booze level, but man this is impressive in its own way - headline grabbing dark bread and chocolate aroma and taste, beautiful and lasting beige head and retention, comfortable booze and sweetness, and matching hoppiness. Who say an Imperial Stout has to be more than 10% to be great? This is a very well balanced Stout, and if you enjoy dark bread like I do, this is a perfect choice as a liquid meal. Excellent!
