FatTony (102), Augusta, Georgia, USA Apr 26, 2008 12 ounce bottle- poured out black and viscous with a great tan head that stuck around and laced the glass all the way through. Aroma was coffee and toasted malt. Flavor filled the mouth with bitter, bitter chocolate and coffee. A slightly thicker body would have improved the palate score. Over-all: excellent.
Mitch_Wayne (31), Kokkola, Finland Aug 7, 2008 Exceptionally good stout but not an imperial one at least in my opinion. Fruity smell has something smoky about it, the taste is richly fruity and I love the chewy malts on this one. Nicely full bodied and sweet in a perfect way. World class stuff, the brits can surely make a good stout! Some finnish blogger calling this metallic has no bloody clue what he is talking about. ericandersnavy (97), denton, Texas, USA Aug 5, 2008 bottle thanks to girlfriend. poured a dark brown with a tan/brown head. i dont think the head would go away if you wanted it to. aroma was usual for a stout with coffee and chocolate. flavor was excellent with chocolate and a robust bitter quickly fading to an apparent alcohol flavor. samuel smith does it again!! Rune_Stumo (40), FØRRESFJORDEN, Norway Aug 3, 2008 04.10.2003, 0,33. Can. Deep black colour. The beer tastes a lot and the body is full. halfonit (27), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Aug 3, 2008 This is not for the rookie beer drinker. I must admit that I though I was somebody who thought had a good taste when it came to stouts. I love Murphy’s and Guiness but this is much more stronger than that. It is very thick and has a very memorable/distinct flavor. I could try and explain how it tastes, but then I’d just be repeating everything that everybody before me said. Just trust me when I say that if you"re not sure about stouts yet, that you skip this one for now. Not for beginners!!!! pojo41 (295), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Aug 1, 2008 Poured a very dark brown almost black with a small off-white head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, coffee, caramel and a bit of hops. Flavor of dark roasted malt and dark roast coffee, raisins and black cherries. A little bitterness balances the flavors. Good mouthfeel makes this a pretty easy drinking imperial stout. Very good.
