330 ml bottle at home. Black body with a small light brown head that lingers as a film. Inviting port, liquorice, raisin nose. Wonderfully pungent prune, raisin liquorice roastiness in the mouth. Full bodied and thick with a generous carbonation. Long roasted finish.

Bottle 355 ml@ home. Pours very dark brown to almost black with good lacing beige head. Aroma is sweet, dried fruit, roasted malts, dark chcolate. Taste is complex, light sweet at the beginning, with lots of roasted malts, raisins, prunes and chocolate. It finishes slightly bitter, somewhat acidic and dry, what perfectly match the sweetnes. Full body, medium carbonation. Delicious!

Bottle shared from MikeE. Pours dark, muddy, brown, with a thin tan head. The aroma is chocolate, lightly burnt toast, and toffee. Sweet and malty, with a smooth, pleasant bitterness to balance it out. Medium to heavy body, chalky, smooth, and a clean finish. Overall, this is a pretty nice stout. Nothing special going on, but a good, balanced flavor.

A classic, one of those impies that revived the style in the previous century. Brownish beige, creamy, stable head and black colour with ruby hue, only under bright light. Dense and complex aroma of coffee, dry sherry, pear syrup, raisins, cinnamon, ginger, chocolate sauce and cocoa powder. Refined, rich taste with lots of chocolate and candied fruits, sweet but subtly evolving into a mouth-filling, creamy but not too sharp roasted bitterness (black coffee), nutty, caramelly and a bit woody, with a meaty finish with delicate aromatic hops. Not as ’agressive’, spicy or bold as many of the imperial stouts that followed in the Anglo-Saxon world, but well-rounded, very rewarding and very well-balanced.
