UPDATED: JAN 12, 2005 Wow!! A top notch imperial stout that is full of roastiness and carmelization. Also a nice bitter aftertaste.

355ml bottle present. Almost black, reasonable head. Treacle grain malt aroma. Sour treacle grain flavour. Bitter aftertaste. Not my sort of beer.

Roasty, chocolaty aroma with a hint of dry fruits (plums and the likes), alcohol also easy to sense. Rich, tan coloured head, very good lacing, leaves a nice, thin layer. Liquid is black, not transparent, clear. Medium sweetness, light bitterness, even more roast and chocolate after tasting it, leaves a very pleasurable aftertaste. Alcohol warms the oeasophagus and throat. Low carbonation. Long finish. Overall, it’s a good beer. Could have had a better aroma. It feels like a light version of imperial stout, especially looking at its abv.

Pours a dark black with an average tan head. Aroma has a very roasty, chocolately feel. The surprise for this stout for me is the taste and mouth feel. Not too bitter, almost tangy on the tongue that other Samuel Smith’s share, and has a wet mouth feel; all combined for a refreshing stout. Thick, tan lacing down the glass. Highly recommended.

Piwo butelkowe, w aromacie toffi, kawa, gorzka czekolada. Kolor czarna smoła, nieprzejrzyste. Niska piana i ładny lacing. Wysycenie zerowe. W smaku czuć mocną kawę, paloną czekoladę, piwo jest lekko kwaskowate. Na finiszu gorycz od palonych słodów. Lekko wytrawne.

Pours clear black body with weak, puncturing head. Aroma of dark malts, some coffee and chocolate getting stronger overtime and minimal herbs in the back, could’ve been stronger. Taste is semi sweet and dry, a mix of dark malts and oatmeal sweetness getting stronger over the time, a bit sour at the start, minor bitterness. Pretty slick and light for an imperial. It’s good, but that’s it, expected more.

Very dark brown but not quite black with a beautiful tan head that lives forever and leaves lots of lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, dark caramel, and coffee, lots of coffee....I also detect hints of maple syrup. The taste is very rich, can also be verified when you see the remnants of the beer slide down extremely slowly down the side of the glass....Thick like syrup. Full-bodied. I like it alot, probably a great night-ender, but not as extreme as a Russian Imperial. Would drink again, but only 1 at a time for me.

Bottle. Deep brown color with a medium thick light brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, peat and oak. Medium sweet taste with some bitterness. Flavors are roasted malt, coffee and vanilla. Oily feel. Medium to full body. Well balanced.

Poured an opaque black colour with a thick looking appearance. Dark tan foamy head 5mm thick with lots of lace sticking to the glass. A great looking beer. Aroma of semi-sweet slightly roasted coffee, a trace of milk chocolate and possible licorice. Taste persistently and strongly of roasted coffee with hints of dark chocolate. Medium to heavy body. Smooth and creamy on the palate and with a semi-sweet but lingering roasted coffee finish. A good imperial stout.
