Poured into a glass stein. Copper to amber color with a white-barely-there head. Wow. I cannot pick up anything... okay, a slight malty/musty smell. Malty sweetness at first, then bitter, slightly citrus flavor. The malt and hops are fairly balanced. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Very bubbly in the mouth. Quite different from most American IPAs. Or maybe American IPAs are different from English IPAs. Either way, it is more malty than most IPAs I’ve had. The only hangup was the smell, or lack of. It was tasty and different.

(bottle 550ml) Aroma: very caramely, bready nose with just a hint of herbal hoopiness. Appearance:amber color very clear, medium-size longlasting white head. Taste: Very malty caramely and bready medium to high sweetness, low herbal bitterness, Bitter aftertaste. Palate: medium body, high carbonation. Overall: I excepted something better, it’s too sweet and caramely for me.

Bottle. Pours brownish gold with a thin fizzy head. Aromas of caramel, hops and mild skunk. Flavors are biscuit, grain, slight caramel, mildly bitter citrus, and a well balanced hoppiness. Very dry finish. Clean mouthfeel. This is a traditional English IPA. This is where it all began.

The aroma is of mild hops, malt, and a hint of berries. As I sip, the malt comes more into focus; it’s mostly bready, with some caramel. The taste is slightly sweet. Very tasty beer!

Cor âmbar, um pouco de turbidez, espuma bege de média formação, pouca retenção, pecou nesse quesito. Aroma doce caramelado, amadeirado, maltado.

Geruch muffig seltsam. Im Geschmack dann aber gut. Krautig-bitter zum Ende.

*Old rating from 2011. The beer is mild and smooth. Not too intense hoppy, but round and fresh. Nuts, caramel and a smooth mild body. Nice and round.

This is absolutely delicious. I cannot believe I have passed it over time and time again. I have never had an ipa that was just so in your face with melon and apple in the aroma. Cantaloupe, honey dew and crisp apple just crush it, it smells so fucking good. Taste is sweet melon with a massive white wine taste. I’ve had a few ipa’s with a big white wine quality but this one is huge. I was worried this was going to be a gigantic sweet, malty, messy nasty weird bomb of a beer but it’s so good and while a little pricey, definitely worth it for how good this is. I love that this is the origin of my favorite style of beer, totally a great surprise. Cheers!

550 ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.

Clear amber colour; Two finger head and crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation; Fragrant and sweet aroma of rich ale malt, with strong caramel, toffee, plums, light raisins, dark fruits, sugar, bread, strong yeast, lemon and thin grass; Close to light sweet taste of moderate ale malt, with very light dark fruits, faint red fruits, light molasses, light caramel, bread, strong yeast, light earth lemon, moderate to light bitter hops and herbal grass; Close to light body. Slick and quite smooth palate; Mouth feel is very malty in a rather thin body. Strong caramel in background for the amber colour but lesser in taste. Fruitiness is low but testable. Low sweet as in molasses. Very yeasty with bits of earthy notes. Strong lemony herbal hops to round. Nice!.... Hoppiness is light lemon and light grass in nose, more so in taste with earthy notes. Bitterness is moderate for a lasting, close-to-mid astringent malty finish; Quite dry after taste malty and bitter to mouth.

Comments: I like this one quite a lot. As ESB, it’s very malty, with good caramel and sweet nose, less so to the tongue with good lemony herbal hoppiness. Clean, simple and impressive. A nice bitter!
