tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA Sep 26, 2004 Updated: Sep 29, 2004 This is a hell of an IPA. Perhaps Samuel Smith's best beer. Also, the first one I have had that is not in the stereotypical clear glass. This one was brown, maybe they are learning something. Brown copper beady with beautiful thick frothy white head. Very sweet and vinuous. Hops, of course, are evident, but not painfully so. This truly is a mild IPA and could become a session beer easily. This is a smooth and easy to drink beer.A new favorite.
mjs (576), Helsinki, Finland Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle at Tuulensuu, Tampere, on 2008-10-04) Amber. Clear. Small white head. Malty and grassy nose. Medium bodied quite dry palate with lots of carbonation. Hops, grass, malts, white bread, bitterness and fruitiness in taste. Bitter and fruity aftertaste. trapez (221), Hilleroed, Denmark Oct 3, 2008 Bottle 0.55 l. Clear golden amber colour with medium white head. Rather weak hops aroma. Very well balanced flavour with malt and hops. Soft carbonation. Long lasting slight bitterness in the aftertaste. A hint of licourice. MI2CA (1099), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Sep 29, 2008 550ml - Malty aroma of caramel, sour fruit and earthy hops. Pours transparent copper with a small head and good lacing. Flavor is a weak match to aroma with a rusty water aftertaste. Palate is clean and creamy. OK but not something I’d buy again. kiefdog (473), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 27, 2008 50cl bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a generally clear dark amber color with a thick and frothy white-tan head. Aroma is somewhat sweet and malty with notes of cooked veggies, fresh citrus, grass, hay, and maybe some ripe fruit. Flavor is somewhat fruity with some light hops and just a touch of sour malt toward the end. Generally light bodied with a somewhat quick finish. cblado (86), Wisconsin, USA Sep 21, 2008 12 oz bottle. Poured a deep golden color, a bit hazy. Aroma is fruity, with some malt as well. Flavor is dominated by fruity hops, but also a fruity taste, apple, perhaps a bit of prune. Not unpleasant. Palate seems a bit thin, but not bad for this style. Overall a good ale, I’d have this again.
