Bottle. This had a strong, wafting aroma of hazlenut syrup, alcohol, and crisp malt. Pours a reddish dark amber, with minimal head. I really enjoyed the flavor on this brown. Compared to the other examples we drank, this one had a very strong ester profile that melded well with the nutty malts to create a really delicious and satisfying flavor. The body held up well, supplemented with a sulfate-leaning mineral profile for interesting balance. Quite tasty.

Aroma of dark fruit, some nuts, palate is similar, though there is a tiny bitterness there. This is better than I thought it would be. Reddish color, thick head, nice retention and thick lacing.

aroma is relatively strong caramel devoid of cocoa or other typical nut brown elements. appearance is standard soft brown. flavor is typical samuel smith nearly acrid malt character with alternate note of lightly sweet cocoa with ’hard’ attack, no soft edges as found often in the style.

pours out amber brown with a nice frothy bubbly off white tannish head. the body is a cloudy see through brown with a decent amount of bubbles rising from the bottom. the aromas are hazelnuts, sweet malts, floral, and some what hoppy, but not much. the flavors are very full bodied and smooth with an awsome mouthfeel due to the right amount of carbonation. i also taste bitter caramel, banana, lightly roasted coffee, some coco, and all types of nuts. the aftertaste is very smooth and simple, and does have a nice long finish. really enjoyable brew, will seek again espicially due to the great price i bought it for.

Poured this from a bottle it was a beautiful dark brown with a big beige head. The head went away quickly. Smelled of caramel but the woodsy undertones for me kept me from rating it higher. Great flavor though with caramel chocolate and nutty notes throughout. I thought it tasted better than it smelled.

355ml bottle, as pictured. Pours a beautiful, clear deep brown colour with a big, creamy beige head, with plenty of retention. Intense aroma of caramel and ripe plums, with dry hops in the background. Medium bodied dark ale, feels stronger than it is, slightly grainy (but not watery) mouth feel. Flavour isn’t really "sweet" at all - coffee notes, some dark chocolate, with a malty finish and mildly sweet after taste. Chocolate notes come to the fore as the beer gets warmer. This is a surprisingly powerful brown ale - heavier than a bitter, a little lighter than a stout. Very refreshing, well balanced, drinking very nicely. Too bad, again, that the only vendor who carries it in Germany charges a premium price for it, €3.49 for a small bottle. Well, next time in England (at the Chandos near the National Portrait Gallery, e.g.) :=)))

woody, boozy smell, its light brown with a bubbly head that fades away but laces. taste is a heavy malty sweet, woody caramel that lasts, hops at the end. its smooth and heavy, this is so good

Smells earthy, with some hops. Tastes nutty with some hops and caramel and a bit of roasted malt. Flavour is not that big but the taste is good.
