sja14 (105), Ohio, USA Aug 9, 2008 A dark amber beer with a nice off white head. Smells earthy with fruity hints. A nice nutty and hoppy flavor. Definitely complex. Caramelly texture. The more Samuel Smith beers I try the more I like them. DarkBeer (47), Ohio, USA Aug 6, 2008 Very nutty aroma. Pours amber-brown. Head laces nicely. Feels good in the mouth, with more body than some brown ales. The taste is complicated, and muty, of course. Nice clean finish, with a lovely aftertaste that llingers a while. eaglecoug (4), , Washington, USA does not count Aug 4, 2008 Where do I start, the first aroma to hit my nose was a soy sauce smell. That did it for me, where I drained the bottle and went-on to the next beer. Ober (1165), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Aug 3, 2008 Updated: Aug 4, 2008At the tasting session by Joes. A dark amber colored beer, with a light beige head. The aroma of amber and chocolate malts and raisins. The taste of dry chocolate, dark fruits, prune and date. It has some sweetness. The aftertaste is a little woody and a little bitter. halfonit (424), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Aug 3, 2008 Well I feel a little confused about this one. Usually I agree with what I read and hear from people at this website. But for some reason this one just didn’t sit smoothly with me. Very thick and nutty flavor. It almost reminded me of Sam’s Triple Black. (which is nothing short of horrible). I usually like this type of flavor and style. Maybe it was skunked ( there is no expiration date on it) and that explains such a pungent taste. I’m going to go with that excuse! vmilaxer29 (144), Virginia, USA Jul 30, 2008 A great brown ale that finishes smooth and is full of flavor. Very easy to find at most liquor stores, so I suggest you pick it up next time you are in there. A solid brown ale. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Jul 29, 2008 Samuel Smith’s Nut Brown Ale is a clear brown-red ale with a yellow sand-colored head that’s dense and foamy and leaves nice lacing. It has a nutty, roasty, sour aroma with notes of tamari and chocolate. It’s a bit muted by the head. It’s medium bodied, smooth and a bit foamy with a clean, dry finish. The flavor is nutty with notes of soy sauce, leather and possibly black currant. It’s funky and very English. It has a roasty, bitter, almost sooty finish that lingers for a bit. It’s a very Northern English Brown Ale. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jul 26, 2008 Dark amber in color with a small tan head. Aroma is of caramel and nuts with some toffee and raisin. Flavors are the same.
