spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Jun 29, 2008 Reddish brown with dense tan head. Aroma is roasted malts.
Taste is some chocolate with some bitter hops, nice mild flavors and well carbonated. A slight coffee of toffee character as well. Easy drinker and would be quite sessionable. Had this bottle following a hoppy ESB so may have to re-rate later. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jun 29, 2008 From bottle. Pours a surprisingly light colored maple with fluffy carbonation. Aroma of nuts, malt, and roasted notes. Palate is medium, smooth and lightly carbonated. Very refreshing. Flavor is initially malty sweet, with hints of chocolate and walnut, then gives way to upfront hops with more intense roasts. Overall, a very nice brown ale with great flavor. The body was a tad light, but a fine offering from Sam Smith. subcell (95), Portsmouth, Virginia, USA Jun 27, 2008 Very nice Nut Brown Ale. I found it slightly bitter but very tasty. So far I am very impressed by Samuel Smith’s in general! EHSRanders (1121), Randers C, Denmark Jun 24, 2008 Bottle. Clear dark amber colour with medium creamy off-white mostly lasting head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel. Sweet Flavor. Creamy palate. wolverine1971 (3), , Rhode Island, USA does not count Jun 23, 2008 So smooth and easy to drink. I wasn’t sure to expect since I’ve recently had some brown ales with a strong alcohol taste but this was something I could drink for breakfast with my pancakes anyday. Bought a single from my local store but will definitly pick up the 4 pack. spagyetti (68), Puyallup, Washington, USA Jun 20, 2008 Bottle. A well prep’d ale. Very easy to drink. smooth, colourful, and even sweet at times. A delight, in form and finish. A must! kieleszd (83), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jun 17, 2008 Malt. This brown ale speaks of malt the minute the foil is off. Its clean and refreshing. The hops are a little weak but the germ soaks through the barley and with a hint of walnut, it turns its Arizona tint into a Colorado Mountain. mattmc1973 (300), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Jun 13, 2008 Pours a red/dark brown with a frothy head that leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, nut, and a wine scent. Taste of coffee, roasted nuts, with a bit of a bitter bite at the end. Dry mouthfeel, with medium carbonation. A nice brown ale.
