Underhook (162), Lincoln Park, New Jersey, USA

A good amount of beige colored head on the pour that is absolutely delicious. It is a bit watery, as others have said, but aside from that the flavor is really good. Heavy, nutty flavor that gets stronger as the beer warms a bit- in the future I will let this brew warm a bit before drinking it. Roasted, nutty flavor finishes well and stays for a bit. Enjoyable brew that is easy to drink. tzakiel (38), Virginia, USA

First Impression: Not a fantastic beer - rather light, not watery, but simple. Aroma is leather, earth, and serious hay — like a day at the farm. Visuals are a nice clear ruby brown with a sustained off white head. Taste is maybe the weakest feature, and a shame at that. Thin, muted, and a bit shallow. No discernible complexities of flavor, like ones you might expect in a brown ale, as from roasted or chocolate malts. Palate is crisp, dry, with a soda mouthfeel. Taste does not linger for long after, and doesn’t do much during a taste. Second Impression - it’s very sad that the same brewer that makes the Oatmeal stout does such a poor job of this. Thin, weak, sad.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 10, 2008 Bottle, 5%. Weak roasted aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Nice stable tan head. Roasted flavour, quite vinous, almost oxidized-tasting. Not too old, but also not bad. soulgrowl (52), Kitakyushu-shi, Japan

Appearance: Pretty mahogany color, dark-red orange with a shade of deep plum. Overall, reminds me of autumn leaves. The head is less attractive: big, volatile bubbles that coalesce into a lumpy, off-white cloud, similar to stucco.
Flavor: More caramel, with a nice hoppy bitterness that didn’t come through in the nose. In a way, it’s more like an amber ale than a typical brown ale. Finished with a rush of walnut, followed by a long, dry aftertaste.
Palate: Although the bubbles are on the large side, the beer is fairly creamy.
Overall: Goes down easy, but sits pretty heavy in your stomach. For something that fills me up like this, I would have preferred it to be a bit more flavorful. This is absolutely divine with gruyere.

Brune nousette claire, petit collet. Arome de noisette malté doux, un peu de cassonade. Gout de noisette et de malte légèrement torrifier, une touche houblon amère. Une brunne très plaisante!
