ciuspan (94), Hillerød, Denmark May 12, 2008 Smagt 10/5 2008 hos Lars. Nøddebrun farve meget lidt smag men dog alligevel yderst behagelig og lige til at hælde ned. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark May 10, 2008 Bottle, 5%. Weak roasted aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Nice stable tan head. Roasted flavour, quite vinous, almost oxidized-tasting. Not too old, but also not bad. soulgrowl (52), Kitakyushu-shi, Japan May 7, 2008 Aroma: A whole lot of caramel.
Appearance: Pretty mahogany color, dark-red orange with a shade of deep plum. Overall, reminds me of autumn leaves. The head is less attractive: big, volatile bubbles that coalesce into a lumpy, off-white cloud, similar to stucco.
Flavor: More caramel, with a nice hoppy bitterness that didn’t come through in the nose. In a way, it’s more like an amber ale than a typical brown ale. Finished with a rush of walnut, followed by a long, dry aftertaste.
Palate: Although the bubbles are on the large side, the beer is fairly creamy.
Overall: Goes down easy, but sits pretty heavy in your stomach. For something that fills me up like this, I would have preferred it to be a bit more flavorful. This is absolutely divine with gruyere.
Quevillon (1518), Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Canada May 5, 2008 Bouteille 550 ml, acheté le 2/5/08 au LCBO de Rideau et King Edward (Ottawa). Brune nousette claire, petit collet. Arome de noisette malté doux, un peu de cassonade. Gout de noisette et de malte légèrement torrifier, une touche houblon amère. Une brunne très plaisante! FishManLA (284), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA May 5, 2008 Pours a medium brown with a medium sized head with fairly long persistence and nice lacing. Nose is an earthy malt. Taste is malty and nutty, but understated. Finish is also understated, mostly of hops. A clean drinkable brew, but not a standout. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 4, 2008 35.5 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden brown with a creamy tan head. Light earthy malt aroma. Flavour is caramel malt, light roasted, and with a nice bitterness. Light roasted and bitter finish. Mildly nutty. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada May 2, 2008 550 ml bottle from the LCBO. pours a reddish copper with lotsa carbonation. the tan head is fairly small but stays with you and leaves nice lacings. rich malty aromas. very much a crystal malt aroma, which for a brown ale is a welcomed touch. rich chewy malt flavour. wow this is a nice brown ale. i could session this one for sure. ontheroad (25), Buffalo, New York, USA May 2, 2008 Pours with a fair head and a dark brown/amber color. Has a nice nuttines in its initial impression, with smooth tobacco follow-up A good example of the style.
