cyrenaica (435), Milton, Ontario, Canada Apr 19, 2008 500ml bottle
5.0% ABV
I tried this beer on April 17, 2008 after purchasing at one of the local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a beautiful translucent reddish-brown colour with a huge rocky head that slowly dissipated. The aroma was caramel malt, and some hops. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, slightly creamy, and slightly bitter. The flavour was similar to dark, powdered cocoa, with a little hoppishness.
Zaprozdower (41), Boone, North Carolina, USA Apr 16, 2008 Pours fairly thin for a brown ale, but with a good head. Color was less dark than I would have expected and the aroma was more of a lager than anything. More refreshing than the average nut brown, but seems to have a little less flavor than I was looking for. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Apr 16, 2008 Samuel Smiths Nut Brown Ale is a beautiful brown color with a very minimal head. The aroma is sweet and rich. The taste is nicly bitter and was very refreshing. This ale is light enough be to enjoyed by itself, but also has enough character to be enjoyed with a hearty meal. rcasta (472), El Salvador Apr 15, 2008 12 ounce bottle- pours out a translucent red brown with a strong wheat colored head, plenty of lacing. Taste was deep, smokey and nutty without being too sweet. Palate was excellent, creamy with just enough bite.

Vale verga FatTony (121), Augusta, Georgia, USA Apr 15, 2008 12 ounce bottle- pours out a translucent red brown with a strong wheat colored head, plenty of lacing. Taste was deep, smokey and nutty without being too sweet. Palate was excellent, creamy with just enough bite. One of the best beers I’ve had. Thanks, Sam! mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Apr 14, 2008 Bottle poured into my trusty stein- poured transparent dark reddish brown with decent head that stayed around for awhile. Aroma of light toasted malt, nuts, and a snort of hops. Hits the mouth with a well defined medium body, malt has a very slight note of sweetness but is highly enjoyable, notes of nuts throughout, finish has a nice hop note. Solid sessioner. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Apr 13, 2008 Appearance: Pours a deep, garnet-hued body with a full, foamy, off-white head.
Smell: Decently aromatic toasted malt aroma that certainly is nutty with light traces of hops.
Taste: Smooth toasted maltiness with some roasted nuts and a light caramelly sweetness. Spicy hops with a light bitterness. The sweet tries to rebound, but ultimately the mild bitterness wins out on the relatively crisp finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A decent, easily drinkable English Brown. garthicus (1216), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 12, 2008 LCBO - Bottle: Huge frothy off white-yellow head with a ruby-port body. Aroma: Lactic banana, malt and nuts. Flavour: Malt, burnt caramel, some sourness, quite tangy with a long smokey tangy finish. There’s something I just can’t put my finger on that I am not liking about this...
