tig397 (64), dearborn heights, Michigan, USA Feb 7, 2008 12oz bottle. Scents of earth, malts, and alcohol. Poured solid brown color. Very tasteful carbonation. Taste of smooth malt and nut. Had better brown ales but not bad. moseslikesbeer (183), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 5, 2008 bottle. good aroma of hops and malt. the head was very small right from the pour. great brown/amber color. this beer is dry yet has a watery after taste. very much like raisens and nuts. the more I drink Samuel Smith the more of a fan I become of this brewer. I suggest everyone try something from this brewer, they seem to know what they are doing. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 4, 2008 Flaske. Flot brun ale med et pænt skumhoved. Desværre var der ikke megen karbonering hvilket gjorde den en tand for sød og lidt kvalm i smagen. Noget som humlen ikke var kraftig nok til at rette op på. AmazonMatt (284), Panama Jan 28, 2008 Updated: Oct 19, 2008Pretty good beer. Not my favorite style, but this beer has no discernible flaws. Head was gone as soon as poured, liquid is a tea color. Fairly little aroma...nuts and malt. Flavor is there with nuts and graham and a bit of raisin. Decent wet (not dry finish) with pleasing mild after taste. Very approachable beer, and as I try more beers, I appreciate more and more balance and approachability without flaws. Not amazing, but sessionable, if it weren’t selling for over 2 dollars a bottle at the Riba Smith grocery store here in Panama. General66 (167), Streator, Illinois, USA Jan 28, 2008 550 mL bottle shared with Illini08. Amber pour with a 1 finger width tan head that disappeared quickly. The aroma was strange at first with a very strong metallic smell. As it warmed I smelled hints of nut and malt. The taste at first was also a strange metallic flavor. It faded away as the beer warmed however. When it warmed you could taste nuts and hops. It left a slight bitter aftertaste as well. Tasty, but nothing amazing... Illini08 (528), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Jan 28, 2008 550mL bottle, shared by General66; thanks! Gushed a little bit when the bottle was opened. Transparent brown pour with a small tannish head. Strong metallic aroma that faded into more pleasant sugary malts as it warmed. Flavor was nutty, caramel, just a hint of hops. Slightly metallic finish as well. Not sure if this was infected or what was wrong, but something was just a little off with this one. Good, but I’ll stick with GI Nut Brown when I want a brown ale. CCGodwin (19), Hollywood, California, USA Jan 28, 2008 550 ml bottle. Pours a deep brown with some amber with a medium to small tan head. Nose of sugar and caramel. Taste similar to aroma, caramel, nuts, malt. Pretty good. Michmike (11), USA Jan 27, 2008 This smooth, dark brew pours with a small head that quickly expires. It offers the bittersweet combination of caramel/raisen along side a hoppy/nutty bite. Very solid.
